High-Resolution Tunable Diode Laser Spectroscopy of Methane

Pages : 45
Book Description
The feasibility of using tunable diode laser spectroscopy for measurement of methane concentration in turbine engine exhausts was investigated. An experimental program was accomplished in which the foreign gas broadening parameters of the methane R(O)A line of the v3 fundamental band were measured for nitrogen and carbon dioxide broadening. The temperature range was extended from the room temperature data available in the literature to 1000K, typical of turbine engine exhausts. The range of concentrations and path lengths over which the technique is feasible was established. A literature survey on typical turbine engine emissions was conducted from which it was determined that the technique may be applicable at augmented power settings, but methane concentrations are too small for idle and intermediate power settings.

Combustion Gas Measurements Using Tunable Laser Absorption Spectroscopy
Author: R. K. Hanson
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 9
Book Description
Applications of tunable infrared diode lasers for combustion gas measurements are described. The diode laser serves as a source of narrow-linewidth infrared radiation whose wavelength can be rapidly modulated to perform fast, high-resolution absorption spectroscopy. Measurements of fully resolved vibration-rotation lines in the fundamental band of CO are used to infer temperature, CO species concentrations and CO collisions halfwidths in the post-flame gases of a flat flame burner. The feasibility of diode laser measurements in fluctuating and particle-laden combustion flows is also demonstrated. (Author).

Biogenic Trace Gases
Author: P. A. Matson
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1444313819
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 408
Book Description
Trace gases are those that are present in the atmosphere at relatively low concentrations. Small changes in their concentrations can have profound implications for major atmospheric fluxes, and thereore, can be used as indicators in studies of global change, global biogeochemical cycling and global warming. This new how-to guide will detail the concepts and techniques involved in the detection and measurement of trace gases, and the impact they have on ecological studies. Introductory chapters look at the role of trace gases in global cycles, while later chapters go on to consider techniques for the measurement of gases in various environments and at a range of scales. A how-to guide for measuring atmospheric trace gases. Techniques described are of value in addressing current concerns over global climate change.
