Unconventional Gas Reservoirs

Unconventional Gas Reservoirs PDF Author: M. Rafiqul Islam
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128005947
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 633

Book Description
Natural gas, especially unconventional gas, has an increasingly important role in meeting the world's energy needs. Experts estimate that it has the potential to add anywhere from 60-250% to the global proven gas reserve in the next two decades. To maintain pace with increasing global demand, Unconventional Gas Reservoirs provides the necessary bridge into the newer processes, approaches and designs to help identify these more uncommon reservoirs available and how to maximize its unconventional potential. Loaded with reservoir development and characterization strategies, this book will show you how to: - Recognize the challenges and opportunities surrounding unconventional gas reservoirs - Distinguish among the various types of unconventional reservoirs, such as shale gas, coalbed methane, and tight gas formations - Drill down and quantify the reservoir's economic potential and other critical considerations - Gain practical insights and tools to efficiently identify, appraise, and develop unconventional gas reservoirs - Understand various techniques used to analyze reservoir parameters and performance as well as how they were applied to numerous real-world case studies - Upgrade to the latest information on perspectives and insights with discussion of key differences used for today's unconventional gas characterization versus original conventional methods that failed in the past

The Geological Modelling of Hydrocarbon Reservoirs and Outcrop Analogues

The Geological Modelling of Hydrocarbon Reservoirs and Outcrop Analogues PDF Author: Ian D. Bryant
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1444303961
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 311

Book Description
The Geological Modelling of Hydrocarbon Reservoirs and Outcrop Analogues is a collection of 15 selected papers taken from the Symposium of the same name which formed part of the IAS Congress of 1990 held in Nottingham, UK. Recent technological advances and the ever increasing demand for maximising recovery from existing oil and gas fields has led to an upsurge of interest, at both academic and industrial levels, in reservoir characterization and quantitative modelling of physical rock properties in 3-D inter-well space. Synthesizing both industrial and academic research and integrating sedimentology, petroleum geology, geostatistic and geomathematics, this volme is a state-of-the-art presentation of approaches to quantifying geology in order to give better input to 3-D numerical reservoir modelling methods. It is the first IAS volume to highlight the necessary interface with academic and oil industry geology by showing how academic research can significantly support the mathematical modelling work of reservoir engineers in industry and contributions to the volume come from an expert, international team comprised of university, government and international oil industry scientists.

Terrigenous Clastic Depositional Systems

Terrigenous Clastic Depositional Systems PDF Author: William E. Galloway

Pages : 505

Book Description
Nonrenewable energy resources, comprising fossil fuels and uranium, are not ran domly distributed within the Earth's crust. They formed in response to a complex array of geologic controls, notably the genesis of the sedimentary rocks that host most commercial energy resources. It is this genetic relationship between economic re sources and environment that forms the basis for this book. Our grouping of petro leum, coal, uranium, and ground water may appear to be incongruous or artificial. But our basic premise is that these ostensibly disparate resources share common genetic attributes and that the sedimentological principles governing their natural distributions and influencing their recovery are fundamentally similar. Our combined careers have focused on these four resources, and our experiences in projects worldwide reveal that certain recurring geologic factors are important in controlling the distribution of com mercial accumulations and subsurface fluid flow. These critical factors include the shape and stability of the receiving basin, the major depositional elements and their internal detail, and the modifications during burial that are brought about in these sediments by pressure, circulating fluids, heating, and chemical reaction. Since the first edition of this book in 1983, there has been a quantum leap in the volume of literature devoted to genetic stratigraphy and refinement of sedimentologi cal principles and a commensurate increase in the application of these concepts to resource exploration and development.
