Grossesse et diabètes

Grossesse et diabètes PDF Author: Charlotte Bory
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : fr
Pages : 482

Book Description

Controversies in Diabetes and Pregnancy

Controversies in Diabetes and Pregnancy PDF Author: Lois Jovanovic
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461237920
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 212

Book Description
As I read this unique volume on diabetes and pregnancy edited by Lois Jovanovic, I was struck by two themes that run throughout these collected chapters. First, this volume provides an excellent assessment of past problems, present management, and future challenges presented by dia betes in pregnancy. Orury's unique, longitudinal experience with diabetes iIi pregnancy provides the reader with an important overview, as does Coetzee's discussion of gestational diabetes. Current problems-deter mining the etiology and prevention of congenital malformations in infants of diabetic mothers (10M), assessment of antepartum fetal condition, management of pregnant patients with diabetic retinopathy, recognition of thyroid dysfunction in the pregnant diabetic woman, and understanding the multitude of metabolic sequelae observed in the 10M-are thoroughly reviewed. Finally, important considerations for future treatment and ther apy such as the adaptation of the fetal pancreas to the disordered intra uterine environment often seen in maternal diabetes, the use of fetal pan creatic tissue for transplantation, the application of exercise in the management of the pregnant woman with diabetes, and the long-term con sequences for the 10M provide an exciting glimpse into the future. The second important theme that emerges is the critical role the problem of diabetes in pregnancy has played in our understanding of maternal and fetal physiology. Clinical observations supported by basic research have emphasized the role of fetal fuels in teratogenesis.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes PDF Author: Miroslav Radenkovic

Pages : 395

Book Description
Gestational diabetes mellitus is defined as hyperglycemia with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. The incidence of gestational diabetes is still increasing and this pathological condition has strong association with adverse pregnancy outcomes. Since gestational diabetes can have long-term pathological consequences for both mother and the child, it is important that it is promptly recognized and adequately managed. Treatment of gestational diabetes is aimed to maintain euglycemia and it should involve regular glucose monitoring, dietary modifications, life style changes, appropriate physical activity, and when necessary, pharmacotherapy. Adequate glycemic control throughout the pregnancy can notably reduce the occurrence of specific adverse perinatal and maternal outcomes. In a long-term prospect, in order to prevent development of diabetes later in life, as well to avoid associated complications, an adequate education on lifestyle modifications should start in pregnancy and continue postpartum.

Book Description
Babies of women with diabetes are nearly five times more likely to be stillborn and almost three times more likely to die in the first three months. The incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus in the U.S. is high—between 3 and 7 percent—and rising. The condition is often complicated by other risk factors such as obesity and heart disease. The Textbook of Diabetes and Pregnancy presents a comprehensive review of the science, clinical management, and medical implications of gestational diabetes mellitus, a condition with serious consequences that is on the increase in all developed societies. This new edition supports the latest initiatives and strategies of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) and adds chapters on noncommunicable diseases, obesity, bariatric surgery, and epidemiology outside Western cultures. Written by a cadre of experts, the book provides a comprehensive, authoritative, and international view of gestational diabetes mellitus and will be invaluable to maternal-fetal medicine specialists, diabetologists, neonatologists, and a growing number of gynecologists and general physicians concerned with the management of noncommunicable diseases in pregnancy.

Book Description
The care of pregnant women who have diabetes is often likened to a "juggling act" in that so many disciplines are involved in their care. This book reflects the findings of a program in management of pregnant women with diabetes at the University of California, San Diego. It considers old and new methods for the delivery of insulin, monitoring of blood glucose control, and current concepts in prenatal and neonatal care.
