Book Description
Essay from the year 2022 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: A, , course: Islamic banking, language: English, abstract: Green sukuk is a form of Islamic green finance that helps in mobilisation of funds for green projects. Like conventional sukuk, green sukuk is an asset-based security based on sharia laws and is used mostly in Muslim majority countries to mobilise finances for infrastructure and large-scale developments (Sekuriti, 2019). It is a low-risk, guaranteed return for the investor. These programs provide solutions in areas where financial inclusion is low, as they minimise risk. For instance, they help governments and local authorities to implement sustainable projects or projects aimed at combating climate change such as renewable energy and waste management projects. The use of Sukuk also reduces debt levels by promoting economic security and equality. According to Ng (2015), Sukuk can be restructured to help in the attainment of sustainable development goals by integrating contemporary innovations in financial technology. Consistent with this argument, the OECD (2020) proposed the introduction of the incentive-compatible Sukuk masharakah model in the development of green bonds.

Category : Business & Economics

Pages : 573

Book Description
Climate change is a major problem, generating both risks and opportunities that will have a direct impact on the economy and the financial sector. In recent years, climate change has threatened both the survival of the financial system and economic development. The growing occurrence of extreme climate events combined with the imprudent nature of economic growth can cause unsustainable levels of harm to the financial sectors. On the other hand, it presents a range of new business challenges. In contrast to the most evident physical risks, companies are vulnerable to transformational risks that arise from the reaction of society to climate change, such as technological change, regulation and markets that can boost the cost of doing business, threats to the profitability of existing goods, or effects on the value of the asset. Climate change also offers new business opportunities, and it has made research in the context of a sustainable financial sector indispensable. The Handbook of Research on Climate Change and the Sustainable Financial Sector focuses on the impacts of climate change on various sectors of the world economy. This book covers how businesses can improve their sustainability, the impact of climate change on the financial sector, and specifically, the impacts on financial services, supply chains, and the socio-economic status of the world. Beyond focusing on the impacts to the financial industry itself, this book assesses how climate change in the financial sector affects the well-being of society in areas such as unemployment, economic recessions, decreases in consumer purchases, and more. This book is essential for stockbrokers, business managers, directors, fund managers, financial analysts, consultants and actuaries, institutional investors, policymakers, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students interested in a comprehensive view of the impact of climate change on the financial sector.

Book Description
The contemporary impulse for ethical and impactful investment is proliferating the demand for Socially Responsible Investment (SRI). As an integral part of responding to the climate change problem and minimizing the pressure on limited resources of Earth, the concept of a circular economy is gaining relevance. Even though the concepts of SRI and circular economy are embedded in Islamic finance standards, these sectors are yet to overlap. To bridge the gap, Green Sukuk can play a vital role as an Islamic SRI tool. Therefore, this paper aims to find the congruence between Islamic Finance, SRI and Circular Economy and provide policy implications in order to use Green Sukuk as an Islamic SRI instrument to adapt the notion of circular economy and introduce Islamic finance to the world of ethical, environmental and socially impactful investment.
