A Compendium Of Musical Mathematics

A Compendium Of Musical Mathematics PDF Author: Franck Jedrzejewski
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9811284385
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 286

Book Description
The purpose of this book is to provide a concise introduction to the mathematical theory of music, opening each chapter to the most recent research. Despite the complexity of some sections, the book can be read by a large audience. Many examples illustrate the concepts introduced. The book is divided into 9 chapters. In the first chapter, we tackle the question of the classification of chords and scales. Chapter 2 is a mathematical presentation of David Lewin's Generalized Interval Systems. Chapter 3 offers a new theory of diatonicity in equal-tempered universes. Chapter 4 presents the Neo-Riemannian theories based on the work of David Lewin, Richard Cohn and Henry Klumpenhouwer. Chapter 5 is devoted to the application of word combinatorics to music. Chapter 6 studies the rhythmic canons and the tessellation of the line. Chapter 7 is devoted to serial knots. Chapter 8 presents combinatorial designs and their applications to music. The last chapter, chapter 9, is dedicated to the study of tuning systems.

Functional Analytic Methods In Complex Analysis And Applications To Partial Differential Equations

Functional Analytic Methods In Complex Analysis And Applications To Partial Differential Equations PDF Author: A S A Mshimba
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814548537
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 442

Book Description
These proceedings concentrate on recent results in the following fields of complex analysis: complex methods for solving boundary value problems with piecewise smooth boundary data, complex methods for linear and nonlinear differential equations and systems of second order, and applications of scales of Banach spaces to initial value problems. Some problems in higher dimensions (such as the unification of global and local existence theorems for holomorphic functions and an elementary approach to Clifford analysis) are also discussed.Particular emphasis is placed on Symbolic Computation in Complex Analysis and on the new approaches to teach mathematical analysis based on interactions between complex analysis and partial differential equations.

The Musical-Mathematical Mind

The Musical-Mathematical Mind PDF Author: Gabriel Pareyon
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319473379
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 352

Book Description
This book presents a deep spectrum of musical, mathematical, physical, and philosophical perspectives that have emerged in this field at the intersection of music and mathematics. In particular the contributed chapters introduce advanced techniques and concepts from modern mathematics and physics, deriving from successes in domains such as Topos theory and physical string theory. The authors include many of the leading researchers in this domain, and the book will be of value to researchers working in computational music, particularly in the areas of counterpoint, gesture, and Topos theory.

Mathematics and Computation in Music

Mathematics and Computation in Music PDF Author: Timour Klouche
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3642045790
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 546

Book Description
This volume comprises a selection of papers presented at the first International C- ference on Mathematics and Computation in Music – mcm2007. The conference took place at the Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung PK – National Institute for Music Research in Berlin during May 18–20, 2007 and was jointly organized by the National Institute for Music Research Berlin and the Society of Mathematics and Computation in Music. The papers were selected for the conference by the program committee and classfied into talks and posters. All papers underwent further selection, revision and elaboration for this book publication. The articles cover a research field which is heterogeneous with respect to content, scientific language and methodology. On one hand, this reflects the heterogeneity and richness of the musical subject domain itself. On the other hand, it exemplifies a t- sion which has been explicitly intended by both the organizers and the founders of the society, namely to support the integration of mathematical and computational - proaches to music theory, composition, analysis and performance. The subdivision into three parts reflects the original structure of the program. These parts are opened by invited papers and followed by talks and posters.

Stability of Some Advanced Functional Equations in Various Spaces

Stability of Some Advanced Functional Equations in Various Spaces PDF Author: Hemen Dutta
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031337042
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 260

Book Description
The book aims to present several new results concerning solution and various stabilities of some functional equations in various spaces. The chapters consider various spaces to investigate stabilities justifying that stability results hold well in those spaces. It also includes results proving new insight to analyze approximate solutions to a given equation whenever uncertainty occurs. The presentation of the book should be useful for graduated students and researchers interested in the theory of functional equations to understand the useful ideas involved and problems to study further.
