Unexpected Shift

Unexpected Shift PDF Author: Sedona Ashe

Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Apparently, I'm a Dragoness. I knew I was worth more than minimum wage! Suck it, haters. When my parents were murdered in cold blood, life became a shock in more ways than one. Obviously, my parents were sheltering me, and for good reason. Not only am I a dragoness, but there's also a slightly insane sounding prophesy. Something powerful has been asleep inside of me, lurking in the shadows. My spine is tingling, how about yours? I'm supposed to save the world. But first, I have a score to settle. Oh, and to fulfill the prophecy, I'm supposed to take on a mate. Or... more accurately, mates. As in, more than one. My inner beast is super excited about taking on mates. Please don't encourage her. Werewolves, wizards, vampires, you name it, she's down to mate it. I may be new to being a dragon, but my parents didn't leave me completely defenseless. They missed a prime opportunity; they should have named me Stabitha, because I can get very stabby, and I love my blades. Don't make me mad, okay? You won't like it.... I will. The "Dragon Goddess" series is a paranormal romance series with werewolves, wizards, vampires.... and one very sarcastic dragon shifter female! This series follows Tia as she learns who she is and how to control her powers. The blade loving dragon will also claim her fated mates throughout the series. There will be a HEA...eventually! *There is a mate rejection in this series.* I always want to give my readers the best reading experience possible, so this book received an update on May 12th, 2021. An incredible artist created beautiful custom formatting, and editors worked to remove those stubborn typos that managed to slip through the (many) previous rounds of edits. The story remains the same, it has just been tidied up a bit!

Melusine the Serpent Goddess in A. S. Byatt's Possession and in Mythology

Melusine the Serpent Goddess in A. S. Byatt's Possession and in Mythology PDF Author: Gillian M. E. Alban
Publisher: Lexington Books
ISBN: 9780739104712
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 334

Book Description
Gillian Alban meticulously pursues the Fairy Melusine snake-woman image through the plot and the poetry of A. S. Byatt's novel Possession, into medieval legend, and beyond into her antecedents in ancient myth. The book describes the erotically inspiring force of Melusine's love story and draws parallels with goddesses such as Lamia, Ishtar or Inanna, Isis, and Asherah. Mother, creator, and leader, the figure of Melusine was ultimately vilified and tellingly converted into the demon of patriarchal accounts, as seen in the examples of Lilith, Medusa, Scylla, and the serpent in the Garden. Alban deconstructs part of Genesis, including the roles of Adam and Eve and Cain's crime, and illuminates the Old Testament worship of the goddess Asherah alongside the male Yahweh. A forceful exploration of literature, history, and myth, this study sweeps away limiting assumptions about the female sex. Melusine the Serpent Goddess restores the dignity acknowledged to women of old, making a forceful statement about the power and creativity of women.

Goddess as Nature

Goddess as Nature PDF Author: Paul Reid-Bowen
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317126343
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 209

Book Description
Goddess as Nature makes a significant contribution to elucidating the meaning of a female and feminist deity at the beginning of the twenty-first century. Bridging the gap between the emergent religious discourse of thealogy - discourse about the Goddess - and a range of analytical concerns in the philosophy of religion, the author argues that thealogy is not as incoherent as many of its critics claim. By developing a close reading of the reality-claims embedded within a range of thealogical texts, one can discern an ecological and pantheistic concept of deity and reality that is metaphysically novel and in need of constructive philosophical, thealogical and scholarly engagement. Philosophical thealogy is, in an age concerned with re-conceiving nature in terms of agency, chaos, complexity, ecological networks and organicism, both an active possibility and a remarkably valuable academic, feminist and religious endeavour.

Goddess Kali, God Thoughts, Sri Sri Ramakrishna and A Few Slices of Sri Sri Ramakrishna’s Soul (Introducing ‘SoulOlogy’)

Goddess Kali, God Thoughts, Sri Sri Ramakrishna and A Few Slices of Sri Sri Ramakrishna’s Soul (Introducing ‘SoulOlogy’) PDF Author: Dr. Siddhartha Ganguli
Publisher: Allied Publishers
ISBN: 9389934745
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 256

Book Description
Hinduism is a polytheistic religion. For the Hindus, Goddess Kali is the only austere, down-to-earth deity who believes in absolute simplicity and openness. She does not hide her body; she is naked with her private parts covered by a garland of severed hands of demons slain by her. Her mind is overt as she sticks out her tongue representing her thirst for the blood of evil people whom she is determined to overpower and also her feeling of shame. Her soul yearns for pure and authentic love. She is unlike other Hindu goddesses who are opulently dressed and majestically ornamented. Kali’s child, God incarnate Sri Sri Ramakrishna, like his mother goddess is casual not only about his dress but also about his worshipping habits. This book looks at Ramakrishna, his method of devotion, his yearning for the goddess, and his value system and entire philosophy. It analyses the Hindu Saint’s soul and its slices that he had shared and still continues to share, even today—long after he left this planet, with those who understand him thoroughly and are meant to propagate his message. The author’s method of analysis and treatment of the subject are unique as no other Kali or Ramakrishna scholar had used for their probes earlier.

Jailbreaking the Goddess

Jailbreaking the Goddess PDF Author: Lasara Firefox Allen
Publisher: Llewellyn Worldwide
ISBN: 0738748900
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 233

Book Description
Jailbreaking the Goddess is a revolutionary revisioning of the feminine divine. Where the maiden, mother, crone archetypal system is tied to female biology and physical stages of life, the fivefold model liberates the female experience from the shackles of the reproductive model. In a woman's lifetime, she will go through several different cycles of beginnings, potential, creation, mastery, and wisdom. This fivefold model is not an adaption of the threefold. It is a new system that embraces the powerful, fluid nature of the lived experience of women today. Join Lasara Firefox Allen as she explores the nature of the five archetypes; gives examples of what areas of life each might preside over; lists goddesses that fit within each archetype; suggests ways to begin building relationship with the different archetypes; and provides simple rituals for recognition, transition, and invocation. Praise: "Jailbreaking the Goddess is an important contribution to the writings on Goddess tradition and feminist spirituality...I love her political savvy, her sensitivity around issues of diversity and cultural awareness and appropriation, and her unabashed celebration of pleasure, sensuality, and life!"—Starhawk "This fiercely inspired body of work is art, theory, and passion. Genius."—Rosa De Anda, from her foreword "Lasara Firefox Allen delves deep into the ways in which colonialist language has shaped our experience of the divine feminine...This is an innovative work that has the potential to change the face of modern feminist spirituality."—Suzanne Sterling, founder of Voice of Change

The Goddess Myth in Contemporary Literature and Popular Culture

The Goddess Myth in Contemporary Literature and Popular Culture PDF Author: Mary J. Magoulick
Publisher: Univ. Press of Mississippi
ISBN: 149683707X
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 211

Book Description
Honorable Mention for the 2022 Elli Köngäs-Maranda Prize awarded by the Women's Section of the American Folklore Society Goddess characters are revered as feminist heroes in the popular media of many cultures. However, these goddess characters often prove to be less promising and more regressive than most people initially perceive. Goddesses in film, television, and fiction project worldviews and messages that reflect mostly patriarchal culture (included essentialized gender assumptions), in contrast to the feminist, empowering levels many fans and critics observe. Building on critiques of other skeptical scholars, this feminist, folkloristic approach deepens how our remythologizing of the ancient past reflects a contemporary worldview and rhetoric. Structures of contemporary goddess myths often fit typical extremes as either vilified, destructive, dark, and chaotic (typical in film or television); or romanticized, positive, even utopian (typical in women’s speculative fiction). This goddess spectrum persistently essentializes gender, stereotyping women as emotional, intuitive, sexual, motherly beings (good or bad), precluded from complex potential and fuller natures. Within apparent good-over-evil, pop-culture narrative frames, these goddesses all suffer significantly. However, a few recent intersectional writers, like N. K. Jemisin, break through these dark reflections of contemporary power dynamics to offer complex characters who evince “hopepunk.” They resist typical simplified, reductionist absolutes to offer messages that resonate with potential for today’s world. Mythic narratives featuring goddesses often do, but need not, serve merely as ideological mirrors of our culture’s still problematically reductionist approach to women and all humanity.

Inventing and Reinventing the Goddess

Inventing and Reinventing the Goddess PDF Author: Sree Padma
Publisher: Lexington Books
ISBN: 0739190024
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 300

Book Description
Popular religion in village India is overwhelmingly dominated by goddess worship. Goddesses can be nationally well-known like Durga or Kali, or they can be an obscure deity who is only known in a particular rural locale. The origins of a goddess can be both ancient—with many transitions or amalgamations with other cults having occurred along the way—and very recent. While some have tribal origins, others sprout up overnight due to a vivid dream. Inventing and Reinventing the Goddess: Contemporary Iterations of Hindu Divinities on the Move looks at the nature of how and why goddesses are invented and reinvented historically in India and how social hierarchy, gender differences, and modernity play roles in these emerging religious phenomena.
