Cultural landscapes, which in the field of heritage studies and practice relates to caring for and safeguarding heritage landscapes, is a concept embedded in contemporary conservation. Heritage conservation has shifted from an historical focus on buildings, city centres, and archaeological sites to encompass progressively more diverse forms of heritage and increasingly larger geographic areas, embracing both rural and urban landscapes. While the origin of the idea of cultural landscapes can be traced to the late-19th century Euro-American scholarship, it came to global attention after 1992 following its adoption as a category of ‘site’ by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. Today, cultural landscape practice has become increasingly complex given the expansion of the values and meanings of heritage, the influence of environmental challenges such as human induced climate change, technological advancements, and the need to better understand and interpret human connections to place and landscapes. The aim of this handbook is to strike a balance between theory and practice, which we see as inseparable, while also seeking to achieve a geographical spread, disciplinary diversity and perspectives, and a mix of authors from academic, practitioner, management, and community backgrounds.

Este trabajo se realizó con miras a proponer lineamientos estratégicos de gestión cultural ambiental como aporte al Plan Decenal de Educación Ambiental de Risaralda que permitan el fortalecimiento y coordinación interinstitucional e intersectorial en el área programática 14 - patrimonio cultural arquitectónico y arqueológico, y al Plan de Manejo del proyecto Paisaje Cultural Cafetero como un insumo al instrumento de protección, planeación y gestión del - Plan de Manejo Paisaje Cultural Cafetero, proyecto liderado por el Ministerio de Cultura, la Federación de Cafeteros de Colombia, las Gobernaciones, Alma Mater y las CARs-. Estos lineamientos son el resultado del proceso investigativo que se llevó a cabo de acuerdo a la metodología con enfoque participativo, propuesta; inicialmente se hizo un diagnóstico a los diferentes Planes de Desarrollo Municipales, Planes de Ordenamiento Territorial, Planes Básicos de Ordenamiento Territorial, Esquema de Ordenamiento Territorial y Agendas Ambientales de los municipios de Risaralda, a la luz de las políticas sectoriales de Educación, Ambiente, Cultura y Territorio en el marco de la educación ambiental frente al patrimonio cultural, además para alcanzar los objetivos planteados, se consideraron algunos holotipos que plantea la "Investigación holística" dentro de cada momento de la investigación, para ello dentro del diagnóstico fue necesario realizar también, visitas a algunos de los actores encargados e involucrados en el tema en cada municipio (secretarías de Educación, directores de núcleo, Casas de la Cultura, Bibliotecas, Museos, docentes, estudiantes y personas del común, con el ánimo de reconocer los procesos adelantados en educación ambiental en cuanto al patrimonio cultural- arquitectónico y arqueológico-. The number of cultural parks has been steadily increasing in recent years throughout the world. But what is a cultural park? This book provides a detailed answer to this question and sets out the basis for an academic debate that moves beyond the technical narratives that have prevailed to date. It is important to open up the topic to academic scrutiny given that cultural parks are becoming widespread devices being employed by different institutions and social groups to manage and enhance cultural and natural heritage assets and landscapes. The main problem in dealing with this topic is the predominant lack of theory-grounded, critical reflection in the literature about cultural parks. These remain largely conceived as technical instruments deployed by institutions in order to solve an array of problems they must deal with. As cultural parks are generally regarded as positive and constructive tools whose performance is associated with the preservation of heritage, the overcoming of the nature/culture divide, the reinforcing of identity and memory and the strengthening of social cohesion and economic development, this book critically explores these issues through the analysis of the literature on cultural parks. In addition, it provides a novel theoretical conceptualization of cultural parks that is connected with, and underpins, a tentative methodology developed for their empirical analysis.
