He is an awkward speaker too, but he is a matter of fact man; and that in such a cause makes eloquence. He was dealing out facts in bundles, and some new facts. The sympathies of the great assembly were very high, and their cordial reception of the important things was occasionally boisterous. Mr. Buxten produced a new pamphlet, just published by an Englishman, whose business had led him to Jamaica, in 1839, and who had spent six weeks upon a plantation there. He went out with prejudices in favour of slave-holders; but the atrocities he witnessed in the barbarous treatment of slaves, and the information he obtained, had compelled his better feelings to disclose what he knew, 011 his return to England.
