Active Control Of Aircraft Cabin Noise

Active Control Of Aircraft Cabin Noise PDF Author: Ignazio Dimino
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 1783266597
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 303

Book Description
'The text is well written and supported by clear and useful illustrations. This would be a useful textbook for postgraduate or advanced undergraduate studies and would also make a good introductory text for engineers moving into the field. The literature survey and bibliography provide a useful starting point for further study.'The Aeronautical JournalActive Control of Aircraft Cabin Noise provides a bridge to fill the gap between robust control theory and practical applications of active noise control systems in aircraft cabin. Both the possibilities and limitations of structural solutions to enhance aircraft cabin comfort by reducing interior noise are discussed supported by a wide range of topics in engineering, from finite element modeling to multichannel adaptive feed-forward control, usually dealt separately in the literature. In addition, experimental noise attenuation results with passengers' subjective perceptions predicting the effects of cabin noise on comfort assessments is examined. Theoretical and experimental research is detailed enough to capture the interest of the non-expert in engineering who wishes to have an overview of some of the active noise control applications in aircraft. This book may be used as an advanced textbook by graduate and undergraduate students in aeronautical engineering, and would be an authoritative resource book for research into the subject.

Potential Subjective Effectiveness of Active Interior Noise Control in Propeller Airplanes

Potential Subjective Effectiveness of Active Interior Noise Control in Propeller Airplanes PDF Author: Clemans A. Powell
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Acoustical engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 40

Book Description
Active noise control technology offers the potential for weight-efficient interior noise reduction, particularly for propeller aircraft. However, there is little information on how passengers respond to this type of interior noise control. This paper presents results of two experiments that use sound quality engineering practices to determine the subjective effectiveness of hypothetical active noise control (ANC) systems in a range of propeller aircraft. The two experiments differed by the type of judgments made by the subjects: pair comparisons based on preference in the first and numerical category scaling of noisiness in the second. Although the results of the two experiments were in general agreement that the hypothetical active control measures improved the interior noise environments, the pair comparison method appears to be more sensitive to subtle changes in the characteristics of the sounds which are related to passenger preference. The reductions in subjective response due to the ANC conditions were predicted with reasonable accuracy by reductions in measured loudness level. Inclusion of corrections for the sound quality characteristics of tonality and fluctuation strength in multiple regression models improved the prediction of the ANC effects.
