En el contexto de la globalizacion los estados-nacion estan desplegando procesos de reestructuracion territorial y nuevas formas de insercion internacional. Al tiempo que las fronteras vienen siendo reinterpretadas en sus significados, contenidos y funcionamientos. En los últimos años la expresión “cine transnacional” se viene utilizando como sinónimo de “cine contemporáneo” puesto que las actuales condiciones de producción, distribución y consumo cinematográficos conducen a unas transformaciones, también estéticas, que difícilmente pueden explicarse desde las culturas y políticas nacionales. La imposibilidad o, como mínimo, la dificultad de asignar una nacionalidad única o mayoritaria constituye una de las principales características del cine, y de la producción audiovisual, contemporáneos. Los textos incluidos en esta edición se ocupan de estas transformaciones a través de ejemplos relacionados con espacios geopolíticos (los países que componen Mercosur); la recepción y el consumo de producciones audiovisuales latinas en Estados Unidos o con el análisis de espacios ficcionales transnacionales: la ciudad global, la frontera y otros no lugares contemporáneos. Bachata--a guitar-based romantic music that debuted in Santo Domingo's urban shantytowns in the 1960s--is today one of the hottest Latin genres. Recent scholarship on the Amazon has challenged depictions of the region that emphasize its natural exuberance or represent its residents as historically isolated peoples stoically resisting challenges from powerful global forces. The contributors to this volume follow this lead by situating the discussion of the Amazon and its inhabitants at the intersections of identity politics, debates about socioeconomic sovereignty, and processes of place making. ø Editing Eden focuses on case studies from Amazonian Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador regarding the themes of indigeneity, community making, development politics, and the transcendence of indigenous/nonindigenous divides. Portraits of the Amazon emerge through an analysis of indigenous identity as a product of multiple sources, including state policies toward Amazonian populations, the views of foreign ecotourists, the agendas of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and accounts of journalists. This book presents the results of a major project carried out by a team from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and the 14th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities at Lamia. The book gives a full picture of a extensive area of Greece known as Epicnemidian Locris, on which very little has been studied and published in the past. Its relevance in historical times was due to its natural environment and mainly on the pass at Thermopylae, which marked the physical boundary between central/northern Greece and the south, being the scene of repeated conflicts. The book offers a a complete picture of what Epicnemidian Locris was like in the past: its geography, topography, frontiers and the ancient settlements of the region.
