Mathematical Image Processing

Mathematical Image Processing PDF Author: Maïtine Bergounioux
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642196047
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 203

Book Description
The contributions appearing in this volume are a snapshot of the different topics that were discussed during the Second Conference "Mathematics and Image Processing” held at the University of Orléans in 2010. They mainly concern, image reconstruction, texture extraction and image classification and involve a variety of different methods and applications. Therefore it was impossible to split the papers into generic groups which is why they are presented in alphabetic order. However they mainly concern: texture analysis (5 papers) with different techniques (variational analysis, wavelet and morphological component analysis, fractional Brownian fields), geometrical methods (2 papers ) for restoration and invariant feature detection, classification (with multifractal analysis), neurosciences imaging and analysis of Multi-Valued Images.

"In this major contribution to theater history and cultural studies, authors Lawrence Manley and Sally-Beth MacLean paint a lively portrait of Lord Strange's Men, a daring company of players that dominated the London stage for a brief period in the late Elizabethan era. During their short theatrical reign, Lord Strange's Men helped to define the dramaturgy of the era, performing the works of William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe, Thomas Kyd, and others in a distinctive and spectacular style, exploring innovative new modes of impersonation while intentionally courting political and religious controversy"--

Doubtful and dangerous

Doubtful and dangerous PDF Author: Susan Doran
Publisher: Manchester University Press
ISBN: 1847799302
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 489

Book Description
Doubtful and dangerous examines the pivotal influence of the succession question on the politics, religion and culture of the post-Armada years of Queen Elizabeth’s reign. Although the earlier Elizabethan succession controversy has long commanded scholarly attention, the later period has suffered from relative obscurity. This book remedies the situation. Taking a thematic and interdisciplinary approach, individual essays demonstrate that key late Elizabethan texts – literary, political and polemical – cannot be understood without reference to the succession. The essays also reveal how the issue affected court politics, lay at the heart of religious disputes, stimulated constitutional innovation, and shaped foreign relations. By situating the topic within its historiographical and chronological contexts, the editors offer a novel account of the whole reign. Interdisciplinary in scope and spanning the crucial transition from the Tudors to the Stuarts, the book will be indispensable to scholars and students of early modern British and Irish history, literature and religion.

Vortex Structure and Dynamics

Vortex Structure and Dynamics PDF Author: Agnes Maurel
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540445358
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 330

Book Description
The object of this book is to present the state of the art and to summarize the most recent advances in the structure and dynamics of vortices. This subject has indeed recently made some remarkable progress, particularly thanks to stu- dies of turbulence, where coherent structures have been shown to play an important role. The book presents four ge- neral reviews on the experimental, numerical, theoretical, and 2D-vortex aspects. In addition to these reviews, a se- ries of articles describe a cross-section of recent work. Some of these studies are concerned with related fields, such as turbulence, aerodynamics, wakes, geophysics, mixing, and particle dynamics.

Shakespeare in Company

Shakespeare in Company PDF Author: Bart van Es
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 019165518X
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 372

Book Description
This book is about two very different kinds of company. On the one hand it concerns Shakespeare's poet-playwright contemporaries, such as Marlowe, Jonson, and Fletcher. On the other, it examines the contribution of his fellow actors, including Burbage, Armin, and Kemp. Traditionally, criticism has treated these two influences in separation, so that Shakespeare is considered either in relation to educated Renaissance culture, or as a man of the theatre. Shakespeare in Company unites these perspectives. Bart van Es argues that Shakespeare's decision, in 1594, to become an investor (or 'sharer') in the newly formed Chamberlain's acting company had a transformative effect on his writing, moving him beyond the conventions of Renaissance dramaturgy. On the basis of the physical distinctiveness of his actors, Shakespeare developed 'relational drama', something no previous dramatist had explored. This book traces the evolution of that innovation, showing how Shakespeare responded to changes in the personnel of his acting fellowship and to competing drama, such as that produced for the children's companies after 1599. Covering over two decades of theatrical history, van Es explores the playwright's career through four distinct phases, ending on the conditions that shaped Shakespeare's late style. Paradoxically, Shakespeare emerges as a playwright unique 'in company'—special, in part, because of the unparalleled working conditions that he enjoyed.

Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature before Heterosexuality

Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature before Heterosexuality PDF Author: R. Bach
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 0230603637
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 251

Book Description
Shakespeare has been misread for centuries as having modern ideas about sex and gender. This book shows how in the Restoration and Eighteenth century, Shakespeare's plays and other Renaissance texts were adapted to make them conform to these modern ideas.Through readings of Shakespearean texts, including King Lear, Antony and Cleopatra, and Othello, and other Renaissance drama, the book reveals a sexual world before heterosexuality. Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature Before Heterosexuality shows how revisions and criticism of Renaissance drama contributed to the emergence of heterosexuality. It also shows how changing ideas about status, adultery, friendship, and race were factors in that emergence.
