Book Description
This highly-anticipated companion volume to the best-selling Legacy of Stone: Saskatchewan's Stone Buildings combines brilliant colour images of the buildings people worship in with the fascinating stories of those places and people. Legacy of Worship profiles over 60 rural churches, representing 15 spiritual denominations. The writer/photographer team that brought you the award-winning Legacy of Stone has scoured the province for sacred places that illustrate the finest of Saskatchewan’s art and design. Rural religious gathering places often display the work of folk artists and craftspeople, as well as that of professional artists and architects; they are the last repository of primitive art and such crafts as weaving, metal-smithing, needlework and furniture making. This book presents sacred places that illustrate how beauty in any form inspires and nurtures the soul. They demonstrate the universal, eternal need for art and beauty, and the importance of valuing and protecting the religious heritage so important to our identity and our proud place in Canada.

Mary and the Saints

Mary and the Saints PDF Author: James P. Campbell
Publisher: Loyola Press
ISBN: 082943030X
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 112

Book Description
This booklet gives a short outline of the origins of the devotions to Mary and the saints, the way in which saints are proclaimed today, and the place apparitions of Mary have in the context of the Church. The hope is that catechetical leaders will find here a resource that will help explain the place of Mary and the saints within the context of the life of the Church. Many of the most touching images in the Catholic imagination are those of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of favorite saints. We imagine, for example, the young Mary facing an angel who asks her to make a choice not only for herself but for the world as well or the image of a sorrowful mother at the foot of the cross. We also imagine the saints and their heroic love for God and others: the joy of St. Francis of Assisi preaching to the birds; the sacrifice of St. Maximillian Kolbe giving up his life so another can live. This book gives a short outline of the origins of the devotions to Mary and the saints, the way in which saints are proclaimed today, and the place apparitions of Mary have in the context of the Church. From the introductionCatholic Basics: A Pastoral Series offers an in-depth yet accessible understanding of the fundamentals of the Catholic faith for adults, both those active in pastoral ministry and those preparing for ministry. The series helps readers explore the Catholic tradition and apply what they have learned to their lives and ministry situations. Includes study questions and suggestions for further reading. "

Digital Reconstruction of a Dismembered Book of Hours Illuminated by Robert Boyvin

Digital Reconstruction of a Dismembered Book of Hours Illuminated by Robert Boyvin PDF Author: Carla Rossi
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1036414221
Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 236

Book Description
This volume digitally reconstructs a 15th-century Book of Hours illuminated by Robert Boyvin, which was dismembered by a notorious American dealer. Utilising the WBRM methodology, it integrates digital humanities and philological research to restore the manuscript, addressing the ethical challenges associated with manuscript dismemberment. The study examines the manuscript’s historical context, its connection to Cardinal Georges d’Amboise, and Louis de La Londe. Through provenance and dating analysis, it provides a comprehensive understanding of this cultural treasure and advocates against biblioclasm. It underscores the ethical responsibility of preserving our heritage, critiques the complicity of some scholars in manuscript dismemberment, and highlights the omission of critical information in cataloguing platforms. Aimed at scholars, preservationists, and enthusiasts, this book revitalises a dismembered masterpiece and enriches the discourse on the ethical handling of historical artefacts.

A Visit From Saint Nicholas

A Visit From Saint Nicholas PDF Author: Clement Moore
Publisher: E-Kitap Projesi & Cheapest Books
ISBN: 6059654029
Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 21

Book Description
"A Visit from St. Nicholas", more commonly known as "The Night Before Christmas" and "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" from its first line, is a poem first published anonymously in 1823 and later attributed to Clement Clarke Moore, who claimed authorship in 1837.The poem has been called "arguably the best-known verses ever written by an American" and is largely responsible for some of the conceptions of Santa Claus from the mid-nineteenth century to today. It has had a massive impact on the history of Christmas gift-giving. Before the poem gained wide popularity, American ideas had varied considerably about Saint Nicholas and other Christmastide visitors. "A Visit from St. Nicholas" eventually was set to music and has been recorded by many artists. On the night of Christmas Eve, a family are settling down to sleep when the father is disturbed by noises on the lawn outside. Looking out the window, he sees Saint Nicholas in an air-borne sleigh pulled by eight reindeer. After landing his sleigh on the roof, Saint Nicholas enters the house down the chimney, carrying a sack of toys. The father watches his visitor fill the stockings hanging by the fireplace, and laughs to himself. They share a conspiratorial moment before Saint Nicholas bounds up the chimney again. As he flies away, he wishes a "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night."
