Book Description
Abstract: The Nationwide Food Consumption Survey, 1977-78 (NFCS) for households in the West is summarized. Findings include: an average of $60 a week is spent for food; 80% of the participants reported meals or between-meal snacks purchased away from home; the largest share of the at home food dollar (35 cents) went for animal protein, 20 cents forvegetables and fruit (including juice), 13 cents for dairy products other than butter, 12 cents for beverages, 11 centsfor cereals and grain products, 6 cents for fats and sweets, and 3 cents for miscellaneous foods. Average consumption of foods at home is given. Money value for food eaten (either at home or away) for the 4 regions studied showed the Northeast was highest with 68.61 and the South lowest with 56.25. Regional variations are noted within the major food groups and in the use of particular foods within these groups. Urbanization and income differences are noted and all findings are compared to the NFCS. (kbc).

Book Description
This publication reviews the results of research on the western pine beetle up to July 1, 1952. It shows the progress that has been made in over a half-century of study of this one bark beetle. It also records the trials and errors--the research that ran into blind alleys. The record of this pioneer effort in the field of forest entomology in the United States should be of great help to research workers who are faced with similar problems.
