The company that built the Brooklyn Bridge 52 years before the onset of the Golden Gate Bridge, helped with the cable wiring on site in San Francisco by Roebling's Sons Co. The bridge suspension cables used technology to spin the cables, 80,000 miles of steel wire less than 0.196 inch in diameter were bound in 1,600-pound spools and attached to the bridge's anchorages. The bridge weighs 887,000 tons. The largest bridge cables in the world are in the Golden Gate Bridge, three bundles of cables wrapped around forming three feet diameter of cables that stretch from end to end, up and down. The cable wires are so long they encircle the earth in length, more than three times! The bridge length is 4,200 feet. There are 80,000 miles of wire used in the Golden Gate Bridge. The San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge is a beautiful bridge, and crossing it is a joy. It is nice to stop at the end of the bridge and park to look at it.
