Performance-Based Fire Engineering of Structures

Performance-Based Fire Engineering of Structures PDF Author: Yong Wang
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 041555733X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 397

Book Description
Major events—notably the Broadgate fire in London, New York’s World Trade Center collapse, and the Windsor Tower fire in Madrid—as well as the enlightening studies at the Cardington fire research project have given international prominence to performance-based structural fire engineering. As a result, structural fire engineering has increasingly attracted the interest not only of fire and structural engineers but also of researchers and students. And studies in recent years have generated a vast number of findings. Performance-Based Fire Engineering of Structures summarizes the latest knowledge on performance-based approaches to structural fire engineering, enabling readers to critically assess research in the field. Whereas most recent books have been mainly concerned with dissemination of principles encapsulated in established codes of practice such as the Eurocodes, this work addresses in depth: Global structural behaviour and modelling Progressive collapse of structures in fire and the importance of connection robustness The integrity of compartmentation in fire Structural fire engineering under realistic fire conditions and its implications for material properties The limitations of research results and design methods The unexploited potential for advanced fire engineering design This authoritative book draws on the work of internationally active researchers who were core members of the European Network project’s COST C26 working group on fire resistance. It helps readers develop a thorough understanding of how to use advanced fire engineering design to improve structural safety and reduce construction costs.

Data Center Handbook

Data Center Handbook PDF Author: Hwaiyu Geng
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118436636
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 720

Book Description
Provides the fundamentals, technologies, and best practices in designing, constructing and managing mission critical, energy efficient data centers Organizations in need of high-speed connectivity and nonstop systems operations depend upon data centers for a range of deployment solutions. A data center is a facility used to house computer systems and associated components, such as telecommunications and storage systems. It generally includes multiple power sources, redundant data communications connections, environmental controls (e.g., air conditioning, fire suppression) and security devices. With contributions from an international list of experts, The Data Center Handbook instructs readers to: Prepare strategic plan that includes location plan, site selection, roadmap and capacity planning Design and build "green" data centers, with mission critical and energy-efficient infrastructure Apply best practices to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions Apply IT technologies such as cloud and virtualization Manage data centers in order to sustain operations with minimum costs Prepare and practice disaster reovery and business continuity plan The book imparts essential knowledge needed to implement data center design and construction, apply IT technologies, and continually improve data center operations.

Guideline on Fire Ratings of Archaic Materials and Assemblies

Guideline on Fire Ratings of Archaic Materials and Assemblies PDF Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Building materials
Languages : en
Pages : 186

Book Description
The purpose of the Guideline on Fire Ratings of Archaic Materials and Assemblies is to assist architects, engineers, preservationists, and code officials in evaluating the fire safety of older buildings by providing documentation on the fire-related performance of a wide variety of archaic building materials and assemblies, and, for those cases where documentation cannot be found, by providing ways to evaluate general classes of archaic materials and assemblies.

Steel Designers' Manual

Steel Designers' Manual PDF Author: SCI (Steel Construction Institute)
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1444344854
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1410

Book Description
In 2010 the then current European national standards for building and construction were replaced by the EN Eurocodes, a set of pan-European model building codes developed by the European Committee for Standardization. The Eurocodes are a series of 10 European Standards (EN 1990 – EN 1999) that provide a common approach for the design of buildings, other civil engineering works and construction products. The design standards embodied in these Eurocodes will be used for all European public works and are set to become the de-facto standard for the private sector in Europe, with probable adoption in many other countries. This classic manual on structural steelwork design was first published in 1955, since when it has sold many tens of thousands of copies worldwide. For the seventh edition of the Steel Designers' Manual all chapters have been comprehensively reviewed, revised to ensure they reflect current approaches and best practice, and brought in to compliance with EN 1993: Design of Steel Structures (the so-called Eurocode 3).
