Mathematical Optimization for Efficient and Robust Energy Networks

Mathematical Optimization for Efficient and Robust Energy Networks PDF Author: Natalia Selini Hadjidimitriou
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030574423
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 131

Book Description
This book presents a collection of energy production and distribution problems identified by the members of the COST Action TD1207 "Mathematical Optimization in the Decision Support Systems for Efficient and Robust Energy Networks". The aim of the COST Action was to coordinate the efforts of the experts in different fields, from academia and industry, in developing innovative tools for quantitative decision making, and apply them to the efficient and robust design and management of energy networks. The work covers three main goals:• to be a nimble while comprehensive resource of several real life business problems with a categorized set of pointers to many relevant prescriptive problems for energy systems;• to offer a balanced mix of scientific and industrial views;• to evolve over time in a flexible and dynamic way giving, from time to time, a more scientific or industrial - or even political in a broad sense - weighed perspective. It is addressed to researchers and professionals working in the field.

Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming

Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming PDF Author: Jon Lee
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461419271
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 687

Book Description
Many engineering, operations, and scientific applications include a mixture of discrete and continuous decision variables and nonlinear relationships involving the decision variables that have a pronounced effect on the set of feasible and optimal solutions. Mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problems combine the numerical difficulties of handling nonlinear functions with the challenge of optimizing in the context of nonconvex functions and discrete variables. MINLP is one of the most flexible modeling paradigms available for optimization; but because its scope is so broad, in the most general cases it is hopelessly intractable. Nonetheless, an expanding body of researchers and practitioners — including chemical engineers, operations researchers, industrial engineers, mechanical engineers, economists, statisticians, computer scientists, operations managers, and mathematical programmers — are interested in solving large-scale MINLP instances.

Computational Intelligence, Optimization and Inverse Problems with Applications in Engineering

Computational Intelligence, Optimization and Inverse Problems with Applications in Engineering PDF Author: Gustavo Mendes Platt
Publisher:
ISBN: 9783319964348
Category : Artificial intelligence
Languages : en

Book Description
This book focuses on metaheuristic methods and its applications to real-world problems in Engineering. The first part describes some key metaheuristic methods, such as Bat Algorithms, Particle Swarm Optimization, Differential Evolution, and Particle Collision Algorithms. Improved versions of these methods and strategies for parameter tuning are also presented, both of which are essential for the practical use of these important computational tools. The second part then applies metaheuristics to problems, mainly in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, and Nuclear Engineering. Other methods, such as the Flower Pollination Algorithm, Symbiotic Organisms Search, Cross-Entropy Algorithm, Artificial Bee Colonies, Population-Based Incremental Learning, Cuckoo Search, and Genetic Algorithms, are also presented. The book is rounded out by recently developed strategies, or hybrid improved versions of existing methods, such as the Lightning Optimization Algorithm, Differential Evolution with Particle Collisions, and Ant Colony Optimization with Dispersion - state-of-the-art approaches for the application of computational intelligence to engineering problems. The wide variety of methods and applications, as well as the original results to problems of practical engineering interest, represent the primary differentiation and distinctive quality of this book. Furthermore, it gathers contributions by authors from seven countries - some of which are the original proponents of the methods presented - and 21 research centers around the globe.
