Book Description
This report presents the results of a treatability study (TS) performed by Parsons Engineering Science, Inc. (Parsons ES) at Truax Field Air National Guard Base, Wisconsin to evaluate the use of intrinsic remediation (natural attenuation) with long-term monitoring (LTM) as a remedial option for dissolved benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) contamination in the shallow saturated zone in the vicinity of the former jet fuel transfer line southwest of Building 412 and the petroleum, oils, and lubricants (POL) yard (the site). Soil and ground water contamination is documented for the site, with contamination being present in the aqueous (i.e., dissolved) and gaseous phases and as residual light nonaqueous-phase liquid (LNAPL) within the aquifer matrix. There is no evidence of mobile LNAPL (free product) at this site. This study focused on the impact of dissolved bTEX on the shallow ground water system at the site. Site history and the results of soil and ground water investigations conducted previously are also summarized in this report

Natural Attenuation

Natural Attenuation PDF Author: Patrick V. Brady
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9781566703024
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 264

Book Description
Natural Attenuation: CERCLA, RBCAs, and the Future of Environmental Remediation presents the concept of "natural attenuation"-the tendency of soils to severly limit the toxicity of many types of hazardous waste. It reviews and updates the most recent findings from the field and lab and shows how natural attenuation is rapidly changing the direction and focus of environmental remediation. Outlining the legal and regulatory framework that has made waste remediation so costly, this book shows how applying an understanding of natural attenuation can decrease cleanup outlays while lowering risks to human health. Natural Attenuation: CERCLA, RBCAs, and the Future of Environmental Remediation makes it clear why natural attenuation will be relied upon more and more in the future.

Mental Health in the Athlete

Mental Health in the Athlete PDF Author: Eugene Hong
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030447545
Category : Medical
Languages : en

To this end, it presents content relevant to the care of athletes, including doping and the use of performance-enhancing drugs, the mental health impact of concussion, bullying and hazing, the impact of social media and exercise addiction, among other pertinent topics. Current basic and translational research on behavioral health and the relationship of brain to behavior are reviewed, and current treatment approaches, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological (including mindfulness training), are considered. This practical resource targets the stigma of mental in athletes in order to overcome barriers to care by presenting a definitive perspective of current concepts in the mental health care of athletes, provided by experts in the field and targeting sports medicine providers, mental health providers and primary care physicians involved in the direct care of recreational and competitive athletes at all levels.

Introduction to Phytoremediation of Contaminated Groundwater

Introduction to Phytoremediation of Contaminated Groundwater PDF Author: James E. Landmeyer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400719574
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 427

Book Description
This book provides the reader with the comprehensive view necessary to understand and critically evaluate the design, implementation, and monitoring of phytoremediation at sites characterized by contaminated groundwater. Part I presents the historical foundation of the interaction between plants and groundwater, introduces fundamental groundwater concepts for plant physiologists, and introduces basic plant physiology for hydrogeologists. Part II presents information on how to assess, design, implement, and monitor phytoremediation projects for hydrologic control. Part III presents how plants take up and detoxify a wide range of organic xenobiotics in contaminated groundwater systems, and provides various approaches on how this can be assessed and monitored. Throughout, concepts are emphasized with numerous case studies, illustrations and pertinent literature citations.
