Publisher: Genealogical Publishing Com
ISBN: 0806351934
Category : Alabama
Languages : en
Pages : 484

Book Description
This new publication, which is extracted almost entirely from newspapers and archival sources in Scotland, follows the settlement of Scots west of the Mississippi River during the first hundred years after American Independence. Mr. Dobson's latest book identifies about 2,000 individuals who ventured to the West. While the entries vary considerably, virtually every one provides the name of the immigrant, a date (birth, arrival, marriage, death), the state or territory of his/her residence, and the source of the information. Some of the listings give the individual's occupation, the name of a parent(s) and/or spouse, place of residence in Scotland, or more.

The Kennamer Family

The Kennamer Family PDF Author: John Robert Kennamer

ISBN:
Category : Reference
Languages : en
Pages : 386

Book Description
"After careful study of all sources for two years, the authors are of the opinion that [their Kennamer] forefathers were of High Dutch descent and lived in Holland near where that State borders with present-day Germany. ... They came to this country before the Revolutionary War and settled in the Carolinas."--Page 13. Some later went to Alabama. "Hans Kennamer, with a large family, and his eldest son, Jacob, who was married, came to the Cove and settled among the Indians in 1798, or not later than 1805. This place is now know as Kennamer Cove. ... The records of Madison County, Alabama, show that Samuel, Stephen and Jacob Kennamer bought land in that county in 1809. ... It is a well-known fact that the sons of Hans Kennamer settled ... in the western part of Jackson County, the eastern part of Madison County, and the northern part of Marshall County. David and Abram resided in Madison County, while John Kennamer lived at the place wher Paint Rock, Alabama, now is. ... Hans Kennamer died and was buried in Pisgah Cemetery, in Kennamer Cove, Alabama."--Page 14-15. Nothing is know of his wife. Son Jacob Kennemer (ca. 1776-1856) " ... moved from Alabama to Giles County, Tennessee where he acquired ... land of Sugar Creek. ... He was married twice, but the names of his wives could not be ascertained. He was buried on Anderson Creek, in Lauderdale County, Alabama, near Foster's Mill."--P. 17-18. Also includes Kennamer, Kennemore, Canamore, Kennemur, Kennemer, Kenimer families of Georgia. Descendants and relatives lived in Alabama, Tennessee, Texas, California, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Missouri, Iowa, Georgia and elsewhere

Cemetery Records of Green County, Alabama and Related Areas

Cemetery Records of Green County, Alabama and Related Areas PDF Author: O'Levia Neil Wiese
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781556139437
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 158

Book Description
This work contains complete as well as incomplete records of forty-seven cemeteries in Greene County, Alabama. In the past, some of these cemeteries were located in several surrounding counties which were once Greene County. Also, five of these cemeteries are located across the state line in Mississippi. Mrs. Mary Marshall, a well-known local historian and genealogist, compiled this information in a spiral notebook through years of searching these discarded and nearly inaccessible cemeteries. Along with the data, she added her personal knowledge about the families buried in these cemeteries; names of siblings, wives, children of the deceased, relationships of survivors and etc. Therefore, all of her personal comments and detailed instructions are included as they could be invaluable to the researcher in these communities. Cemeteries included are: Belmont, Bethsalem, Beulah, Bigbee, Boligee City, Colvin, Clinton, Concord, Eatman, Ellis, Eutaw, Forkland, Garden, Gays, Greensboro, Gordon or Collins, Harrison, Horton, Havana, Hebron, Lower Pickensville, Lyon, Mildred Jones, Mobley, Mt. Hebron City, Nance, New Hope, New Prospect, Norwood, Old Bethany, Old Erie, Odd Fellows, Old Hollowsquare, Old Mitchell, Otterson, Pippen, Pleasant Hill (also known by other names), Rice, Sawyersville, Shady Grove, Stancel, Steel, Unnamed, Upper Pickensville, Vienns, West Greene, Bardsdale-Cannon, Biensville, Brownlee, Giles, and Turner.
