Book Description
Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Company formation, Business Plans, Management Center Innsbruck, language: English, abstract: This paper starts with a definition of the term entrepreneurship and its relation to eco-nomic development in the second section. The third section is concerned with the elab-oration of women’s motives and intentions as well as the challenges and constraints affecting their decision to engage in entrepreneurial activity. The penultimate section deals with the influence of macro-environmental factors on the emergence of women-owned enterprises. Finally, the last section discusses and summarizes the results. Due to the fact that entrepreneurship includes a huge variety of activities and undergoes constant change, many definitions are existent. Thus, entrepreneurship is nowadays seen as a dynamic process requiring energy and passion towards new ideas and crea-tive solutions. Entrepreneurs are supposed to take risks, while simultaneously identifying opportunities . However, not every entrepreneur has the possibility to recognize opportunities, as his or her entry into entrepreneurship is strongly depend-ent on the surrounding environment. Some entrepreneurs are indeed able to “respond to a perceived market opportunity. Others are forced into starting a business due to unfa-vorable circumstances” . Unfavorable circumstances are, for example, the unavailability of “appropriate paid employment in recessionary economic conditions”.

Women Entrepreneurs and the Global Environment for Growth
Author: Candida G. Brush
Publisher: Edward Elgar Publishing
ISBN: 1849806632
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 383
Book Description
Women's entrepreneurship research and the understanding of factors influencing the growth of women-owned business advanced significantly over the last decade. Yet, challenges remain. Women Entrepreneurs and the Global Environment for Growth provides wide-ranging insights on the challenges women entrepreneurs face growing their businesses and how these may be addressed. This volume is rooted in research and considers growth challenges both contextually and firm specific, provoking current thought and enriching the current literature on gender and entrepreneurship. Part one highlights how contextual factors, and especially social and familial settings of entrepreneurs, have a differential impact on men and women. Part two examines strategies, constraints and enablers of growth and performance. The authors aptly demonstrate that a well-focused gender lens is necessary to better explain the phenomenon of women's entrepreneurship. Extending previous studies about women's entrepreneurship, this volume is unique in its application of research from the Diana Project, a path breaking initiative dating from 1999 to study female entrepreneurial success. Contributions from an international cast of authors make this a comprehensive and broadly appealing reference work.

Female Entrepreneurship as a Driving Force of Economic Growth and Social Change
Author: Daniel, Ana Dias
Publisher: IGI Global
ISBN: 1668476711
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 253
Book Description
In the last decade, female entrepreneurship has gained considerable attention from both academicians and policymakers. Despite the proliferation of studies, this field of research is characterized by being a highly multidisciplinary and dispersed field, encompassing studies from a wide range of disciplines such as business and management, education, political science, technology, and innovation. To legitimize female entrepreneurship as a distinct field of research, it is important to deepen the scientific reasoning regarding women entrepreneurs while promoting the theoretical consolidation of this area of knowledge. Female Entrepreneurship as a Driving Force of Economic Growth and Social Change presents what researchers have learned so far about female entrepreneurship, namely the main motivations that lead women to undertake it and the characteristics of this type of business, as well as the impact of context and technology on the promotion and management of companies by women. In doing so, it contributes to a better understanding of this phenomenon and how it is different from male entrepreneurship, allowing a better delimitation of this field of research. Covering topics such as diversity, innovation, social entrepreneurship, and gender, this premier reference source is ideal for business owners, entrepreneurs, managers, researchers, scholars, academicians, practitioners, instructors, and students.
