Fatigue Assessment of Welded Joints by Local Approaches

Fatigue Assessment of Welded Joints by Local Approaches PDF Author: Dieter Radaj
Publisher: Woodhead Publishing
ISBN: 1845691881
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 661

Book Description
Local approaches to fatigue assessment are used to predict the structural durability of welded joints, to optimise their design and to evaluate unforeseen joint failures. This standard work provides a systematic survey of the principles and practical applications of the various methods. It covers the hot spot structural stress approach to fatigue in general, the notch stress and notch strain approach to crack initiation and the fracture mechanics approach to crack propagation. Seam-welded and spot-welded joints in structural steels and aluminium alloys are also considered. This completely reworked second edition takes into account the tremendous progress in understanding and applying local approaches which has been achieved in the last decade. It is a standard reference for designers, structural analysts and testing engineers who are responsible for the fatigue-resistant in-service behaviour of welded structures. - Completely reworked second edition of a standard work providing a systematic survey of the principles and practical applications of the various methods - Covers the hot spot structural stress approach to fatigue in general, the notch stress and notch strain approach to crack initiation and the fracture mechanics approach to crack propagation. - Written by a distinguished team of authors

Advances in powder metallurgy

Advances in powder metallurgy PDF Author: N. Chawla
Publisher: Elsevier Inc. Chapters
ISBN: 0128088680
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 52

Book Description
Sintered ferrous powder metallurgy (PM) components are replacing wrought alloys in many applications, owing to their low cost, high performance and ability to be processed to near-net shape. The fracture and fatigue behavior of these materials is very important. In this chapter the microstructure, tensile and fatigue behavior of sintered steels is reviewed.

Multiaxial Fatigue

Multiaxial Fatigue PDF Author: Darrell Socie
Publisher: SAE International
ISBN: 0768065100
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 510

Book Description
This book provides practicing engineers, researchers, and students with a working knowledge of the fatigue design process and models under multiaxial states of stress and strain. Readers are introduced to the important considerations of multiaxial fatigue that differentiate it from uniaxial fatigue.

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in a High-Strength Ductile Steel Subject to In-Plane Biaxial Loading

Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in a High-Strength Ductile Steel Subject to In-Plane Biaxial Loading PDF Author: KJ. Pascoe
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Biaxial loading
Languages : en
Pages : 24

Book Description
Flat cruciform-shaped specimens of HY100 steel were tested in fatigue under biaxial stress states. For Mode I crack growth, a tensile component of stress parallel to the crack decreased crack growth rate; a compressive component had the opposite effect. These changes in growth rate are explained in terms of the material's differing cyclic stress-strain response under shear and equibiaxial loading.

Variable-Amplitude Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth of Five Carbon Or Low-Alloy Cast Steels at Room and Low Climatic Temperatures

Variable-Amplitude Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth of Five Carbon Or Low-Alloy Cast Steels at Room and Low Climatic Temperatures PDF Author: A. Fatemi
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Crack growth
Languages : en
Pages : 20

Book Description
Five common cast steels were subjected to SAE transmission history at room temperature and three low climatic temperatures using an as-drilled keyhole notched compact specimen. The three low temperatures were -34, -45, and -60°C. These temperatures were both above and below nil ductility transition temperatures. Three fatigue criteria were specifically monitored: crack initiation defined by the first visible surface crack ?a equal to 0.25 mm, ?a equal to 2.5 mm, and final fracture. All low-temperature total fatigue lives were equal to or better than at room temperature for four of the five cast steels. All steels exhibited crack initiation lives at low temperatures equal to or better than at room temperature. Fatigue crack growth life tended to increase as the temperature was lowered, and then this trend reversed. Scanning electron fractographic analysis showed all ductile type fatigue crack growth mechanisms above or below the nil ductility transition temperature.
