FAA Information Technology: Complete Cost Data Not Provided to OMB.
Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 10
Book Description
To facilitate oversight, OMB requires federal agencies to annually collect and report data on the costs associated with the acquisition, operation, and use of information technology. However, FAA has not provided required data on information technology supporting the air traffic control system, because agency officials believed that these resources did not need to be reported. The absence of data on air traffic control systems does not allow decisionmakers in the Department of Transportation, OMB, and the Congress to focus needed attention on information technology and understates the level of Department-wide and government-wide activity in this area. At the conclusion of our review, FAA officials agreed to start reporting cost data on air traffic control systems.

Author: David A. Powner
Publisher: DIANE Publishing
ISBN: 1437907962
Category : Computers

Pages : 50
Book Description
In FY 2008, the FAA plans to spend $2 billion on info. technology (IT) investments -- many of which support FAA¿s air traffic control modernization. To more effectively manage such investments, in 2005 the Office of Mgmt. and Budget required agencies to use earned value mgmt. (EVM). EVM is a project mgmt. approach that provides objective reports of project status, produces early warning signs of impending schedule delays and cost overruns, and provides unbiased estimates of a program¿s total costs. This report: assesses FAA¿s policies for implementing EVM on its IT investments; evaluates whether the agency is adequately using these techniques to manage key IT acquisitions; and assesses the agency¿s efforts to oversee EVM compliance. Tables.
