Exponential Fitting

Exponential Fitting PDF Author: Liviu Gr. Ixaru
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9781402020995
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 328

Book Description
Exponential Fitting is a procedure for an efficient numerical approach of functions consisting of weighted sums of exponential, trigonometric or hyperbolic functions with slowly varying weight functions. This book is the first one devoted to this subject. Operations on the functions described above like numerical differentiation, quadrature, interpolation or solving ordinary differential equations whose solution is of this type, are of real interest nowadays in many phenomena as oscillations, vibrations, rotations, or wave propagation. The authors studied the field for many years and contributed to it. Since the total number of papers accumulated so far in this field exceeds 200 and the fact that these papers are spread over journals with various profiles (such as applied mathematics, computer science, computational physics and chemistry) it was time to compact and to systematically present this vast material. In this book, a series of aspects is covered, ranging from the theory of the procedure up to direct applications and sometimes including ready to use programs. The book can also be used as a textbook for graduate students.

Theory and Computation of Tensors

Theory and Computation of Tensors PDF Author: Yimin Wei
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0128039809
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 150

Book Description
Theory and Computation of Tensors: Multi-Dimensional Arrays investigates theories and computations of tensors to broaden perspectives on matrices. Data in the Big Data Era is not only growing larger but also becoming much more complicated. Tensors (multi-dimensional arrays) arise naturally from many engineering or scientific disciplines because they can represent multi-relational data or nonlinear relationships. - Provides an introduction of recent results about tensors - Investigates theories and computations of tensors to broaden perspectives on matrices - Discusses how to extend numerical linear algebra to numerical multi-linear algebra - Offers examples of how researchers and students can engage in research and the applications of tensors and multi-dimensional arrays

Recent Advances in Optimization and its Applications in Engineering

Recent Advances in Optimization and its Applications in Engineering PDF Author: Moritz Diehl
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642125980
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 535

Book Description
Mathematical optimization encompasses both a rich and rapidly evolving body of fundamental theory, and a variety of exciting applications in science and engineering. The present book contains a careful selection of articles on recent advances in optimization theory, numerical methods, and their applications in engineering. It features in particular new methods and applications in the fields of optimal control, PDE-constrained optimization, nonlinear optimization, and convex optimization. The authors of this volume took part in the 14th Belgian-French-German Conference on Optimization (BFG09) organized in Leuven, Belgium, on September 14-18, 2009. The volume contains a selection of reviewed articles contributed by the conference speakers as well as three survey articles by plenary speakers and two papers authored by the winners of the best talk and best poster prizes awarded at BFG09. Researchers and graduate students in applied mathematics, computer science, and many branches of engineering will find in this book an interesting and useful collection of recent ideas on the methods and applications of optimization.

Precalculus

Precalculus PDF Author: Jay P. Abramson
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781938168345
Category : Algebra
Languages : en
Pages : 2000

Book Description
"Precalculus is intended for college-level precalculus students. Since precalculus courses vary from one institution to the next, we have attempted to meet the needs of as broad an audience as possible, including all of the content that might be covered in any particular course. The result is a comprehensive book that covers more ground than an instructor could likely cover in a typical one- or two-semester course; but instructors should find, almost without fail, that the topics they wish to include in their syllabus are covered in the text. Many chapters of OpenStax College Precalculus are suitable for other freshman and sophomore math courses such as College Algebra and Trigonometry; however, instructors of those courses might need to supplement or adjust the material. OpenStax will also be releasing College Algebra and Algebra and trigonometry titles tailored to the particular scope, sequence, and pedagogy of those courses."--Preface.

Tensor Eigenvalues and Their Applications

Tensor Eigenvalues and Their Applications PDF Author: Liqun Qi
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9811080585
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 336

Book Description
This book offers an introduction to applications prompted by tensor analysis, especially by the spectral tensor theory developed in recent years. It covers applications of tensor eigenvalues in multilinear systems, exponential data fitting, tensor complementarity problems, and tensor eigenvalue complementarity problems. It also addresses higher-order diffusion tensor imaging, third-order symmetric and traceless tensors in liquid crystals, piezoelectric tensors, strong ellipticity for elasticity tensors, and higher-order tensors in quantum physics. This book is a valuable reference resource for researchers and graduate students who are interested in applications of tensor eigenvalues.

Fitting Models to Biological Data Using Linear and Nonlinear Regression

Fitting Models to Biological Data Using Linear and Nonlinear Regression PDF Author: Harvey Motulsky
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 9780198038344
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 352

Book Description
Most biologists use nonlinear regression more than any other statistical technique, but there are very few places to learn about curve-fitting. This book, by the author of the very successful Intuitive Biostatistics, addresses this relatively focused need of an extraordinarily broad range of scientists.

Theory and Computation of Complex Tensors and its Applications

Theory and Computation of Complex Tensors and its Applications PDF Author: Maolin Che
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9811520593
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 258

Book Description
The book provides an introduction of very recent results about the tensors and mainly focuses on the authors' work and perspective. A systematic description about how to extend the numerical linear algebra to the numerical multi-linear algebra is also delivered in this book. The authors design the neural network model for the computation of the rank-one approximation of real tensors, a normalization algorithm to convert some nonnegative tensors to plane stochastic tensors and a probabilistic algorithm for locating a positive diagonal in a nonnegative tensors, adaptive randomized algorithms for computing the approximate tensor decompositions, and the QR type method for computing U-eigenpairs of complex tensors. This book could be used for the Graduate course, such as Introduction to Tensor. Researchers may also find it helpful as a reference in tensor research.
