Supplement to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Tusayan Growth
Author: Usda Forest Service
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780428538187
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 178
Book Description
Excerpt from Supplement to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Tusayan Growth: Kaibab National Forest The National Environmental Policy Act (nepa) requires preparation of a supplement when new information relevant to environmental concern arises. Further analysis of impacts to water resources and socioeconomic impacts prompted by public comment yielded new information on these issues. Three new alternatives have also been developed based on comments received that also require public comment. Finally, the supplement will identify the preferred alternative. Over 900 comment letters were received on the draft eis, many of which questioned the hydrologic and socioeconomic analyses. The supplement incorporates information from the draft eis and appended materials. Information included in the draft eis will not be repeated in this supplement unless necessary to the understanding of discussion or display of analysis results. Where there are changes in information, the supplement and associated technical materials present the best available information and supersede previous information presented in the draft eis. Record of Decision, Final Environmental Impact Statement for Tusayan Growth

Book Description
Excerpt from Record of Decision, Final Environmental Impact Statement for Tusayan Growth: Kaibab National Forest For some time now, the Forest Service, National Park Service, and in fact, virtually all federal land management agencies in the southwest have been trying to better meet the challenges of the changing southwestern landscape. We know that it is the fastest growing region of the country, and that the folks who are coming here in record numbers are settling next to federally managed lands. We know that water and riparian habitat are ever scarce, and that people and wildlife like to live and play in and near it. Tourism is fast becoming a major segment of the region's economy. Indeed, the Forest Service Natural Resource Agenda includes recreation as a major tenet as does the Forest Service Southwestern Region's customer-driven work emphasis strategy, Company's Coming, as does the Grand Canyon National Park's 1995 General Management Plan. Consequently, I see this collaboratively derived Environmental Impact Statement (eis) for Tusayan Growth as one in a long line of efforts to balance people's wants and needs with the environment. Author: Gary E. Machlis
Publisher: Island Press
ISBN: 9781597263399
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 328
Book Description
Protecting land in parks is often seen as coming at the expense of rural economic development. Yet recent events such as the contentious debate over the development of Canyon Forest Village on the south rim of the Grand Canyon suggest just the opposite: healthy natural systems can be enormously valuable to rural economies.National Parks and Rural Development offers a thorough examination of the interdependent roles of national parks and the economies of rural communities in the United States. Bringing together the thinking and views of economists, historians, sociologists, recreation researchers, and park managers, the book considers how those roles can be most effectively managed, as it offers: a wide-ranging review of history and important concepts in rural development and parks management five case studies of rural development near national parks that identify lessons learned, principles applied, mistakes committed, and advances made personal essays from leaders in the parks management field For each section, the editors offer introductory discussions that provide context and highlight key points. The editors also provide a detailed conclusion which summarizes policy implications and presents specific recommendations for improving rural development and park management policies.Case studies include: Cape Cod National Seashore, Alaskan parks and wilderness areas, Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon, and three parks in the Pacific Northwest (Mt. Rainier, Olympic, and North Cascades).ational Parks and Rural Development is a unique synthesis and guide to solving conflicts between the needs of human communities and nature near federal lands. It will be an important work for agency personnel, nongovernmental organizations, and students and scholars of rural economic development, public policy, environmental economics, and related fields.
