The European Pine-Shoot Moth
Author: August Busck
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780243929535
Category : Science

Pages : 24
Book Description
Excerpt from The European Pine-Shoot Moth: A Serious Menace to Pine Timber in America One such outbreak in Denmark, in 1805 - 1807, is recorded by Nie mann (1809) 1 This was so serious as nearly to cause pine culture to be abandoned in that country as hopeless. It is interesting to note that at that time the same preventive means were resorted to as are now employed against the insect, namely, the wholesale pruning and burning of all infested twigs. Eradicating European Pine Shoot Moth in Commercial Nurseries With Methyl Bromide (Classic Reprint)
Author: V. M. Carolin
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780332732541
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 724
Book Description
Excerpt from Eradicating European Pine Shoot Moth in Commercial Nurseries With Methyl Bromide This is the third in a series of reports on experimental furni gation of the European pine shoot moth in residential areas and nurseries. Methods and techniques derived in previous studies on single ornamentals were adapted to fumigation of a commercial nursery. An elongate cubical chamber was built for treatment of trees in rows. Furnigation of an entire commercial nursery is feasible under conditions existing in the Puget Sound area of Washington during late fall and winter. All treatments in which ground tarps were used under chambers resulted in 100 percent shoot moth control. Two treatments in which wet soil was substituted for the ground tarp failed to give loo-percent control; one of these failures was due to too short an exposure period. Tree damage from fumigation was minor and most apparent on lodgepole pine and western white pine. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
