The Burushaski etymological dictionary provides a coherent, full and thorough analysis of over 500 etymological entries with as many derivatives that were inherited from Indo-European, and are not loanwords from Indo-Aryan, Old Indian or Iranian. Some 200 of these etymologies are presented for the first time, and all the old etymologies have been expanded and revised. The Burushaski correspondences are mostly with widespread and old roots in Indo-European, but many of them align themselves specifically with the North-Western Indo-European branch. 0Semantically, the etymologies encompass mostly core vocabulary (e.g. names of body parts, kinship terms, geographical features, shepherd vocabulary, plant names, core adjectives) including some 170 basic verbs and verbal constructions. 0A separate section analyses the grammatical correlations between Burushaski and Indo-European in the personal, demonstrative and interrogative pronouns and in the nominal, adjectival and verbal morphology.0The Burushaski vocabulary shows various correlations with the modern and ancient Balkan languages. The present volume is an alphabetically arranged lexicon of mythological terms of Baltic mythology. The terms are analyzed in their historical and ethnological context and in perspective of their etymology. They were preserved in numerous chronicles, usually written in non-Baltic languages, namely Latin, German, Old Russian, and Old Polish. Their second important source is hidden in Lithuanian and especially Latvian folk songs called ?dainas?. 0Portions of both primary texts and folklore are included within the individual entries. The recently formulated interpretations of Lithuanian and Latvian mythologists are also taken in account, to confront them with older opinions and with the results of etymological analysis. The proposed etymological explanations of the analyzed terms should serve to differentiate a common Indo-European heritage from the purely Baltic forms, and finally from external mutual interferences with Slavic, Iranian, Germanic and Fenno-Volgaic traditions.

As an Indo-European language, Armenian has been the subject of etymological research for over a hundred years. There are many valuable systematic handbooks, studies and surveys on comparative Armenian linguistics. Almost all of these works, with a few exceptions, mostly concentrate on Classical Armenian and touch the dialects only sporadically. Non-literary data taken from Armenian dialects have largely remained outside of the scope of Indo-European etymological considerations. This book provides an up-to-date description of the Indo-European lexical stock of Armenian with systematic inclusion of dialectal data. It incorporates the lexical, phonetic, and morphological material in the Armenian dialects into the etymological treatment of the Indo-European lexicon. In this respect it is completely new.
