Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
The Encyclopedia of Color Science and Technology provides an authoritative single source for understanding and applying the concepts of color to all fields of science and technology, including artistic and historical aspects of color. Many topics are discussed in this timely reference, including an introduction to the science of color, and entries on the physics, chemistry and perception of color. Color is described as it relates to optical phenomena of color and continues on through colorants and materials used to modulate color and also to human vision of color. The measurement of color is provided as is colorimetry, color spaces, color difference metrics, color appearance models, color order systems and cognitive color. Other topics discussed include industrial color, color imaging, capturing color, displaying color and printing color. Descriptions of color encodings, color management, processing color and applications relating to color synthesis for computer graphics are included in this work. The Encyclopedia also delves into color as it applies to other domains such as art and design – ie – color design, color harmony, color palettes, color and accessibility, researching color deficiency, and color and data visualization. There is also information on color in art conservation, color and architecture, color and educations, color and culture, and an overview of the history of color and comments on the future of color. This unique work will extend the influence of color to a much wider audience than has been possible to date.

Fatigue in Additive Manufactured Metals

Fatigue in Additive Manufactured Metals PDF Author: Filippo Berto
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323998313
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 321

Book Description
Fatigue in Additive Manufactured Metals provides a brief overview of the fundamental mechanics involved in metal fatigue and fracture, assesses the unique properties of additive manufactured metals, and provides an in-depth exploration of how and why fatigue occurs in additive manufactured metals. Additional sections cover solutions for preventing it, best-practice design methods, and more. The book recommends cutting-edge evidence-based approaches for designing longer lasting additive manufactured metals, discusses the latest trends in the field and the various aspects of low cycle fatigue, and looks at both post-treatment and manufacturing process-based solutions. By providing international standards and testing procedures of additive manufactured metal parts and discussing the environmental impacts of additive manufacturing of metals and outlining simulation and modeling scenarios, this book is an ideal resource for users in industry. - Discusses the underlying mechanisms controlling the fatigue behavior of additive manufactured metal components as well as how to improve the fatigue life of these components via both manufacturing processes and post-processing - Studies the variability of properties in additive manufactured metals, the effects of different process conditions on mechanical reliability, probabilistic versus deterministic aspects, and more - Outlines nondestructive failure analysis techniques and highlights the effects of unique microstructural characteristics on fatigue in additive manufactured metals

Fretting Fatigue Behavior of a Titanium Alloy Ti-6AL-4V at Elevated Temperature

Fretting Fatigue Behavior of a Titanium Alloy Ti-6AL-4V at Elevated Temperature PDF Author: Onder Sahan
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781423511564
Category : Titanium-aluminum-vanadium alloys
Languages : en
Pages : 116

Book Description
The purpose of this research is to investigate the fretting fatigue behavior of the titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V at elevated temperature is investigated. Fretting and plain fatigue experiments are conducted at 260 . Crack initiation location and crack initiation orientation is measured and fretting and plain fatigue life data of the specimens from these tests are obtained. Fatigue parameters capable of predicting the number of cycles to specimen failure, the crack location and the crack orientation along the contact surface are analyzed. The parameters are calculated by using the computed stresses and strains obtained from the finite element analysis. The mechanisms responsible for the fretting fatigue crack initiation are determined. The effect of elevated temperature is examined by comparing room and elevated temperature fretting and plain fatigue data.

Fretting Fatigue Behavior of the Titanium Alloy Ti-6AL-4V Under Seawater Conditions

Fretting Fatigue Behavior of the Titanium Alloy Ti-6AL-4V Under Seawater Conditions PDF Author: Lewis C. Lietch
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781423516637
Category : Fretting corrosion
Languages : en
Pages : 129

Book Description
The fretting fatigue behavior of Ti-6A1-4V was investigated in laboratory air and under a controlled environment consisting of synthetic seawater. Fretting fatigue tests were performed for both low and high cycle fatigue regimes. Finite element analysis was utilized to model and analyze the experimental data. The applied stress range and the Modified Shear Stress Range were evaluated as potential fatigue parameters. The results found from this study can be summarized as: (1) seawater had a deleterious effect on fretting fatigue life in the low cycle fatigue regime but improved life in the high cycle fatigue regime, (2) although the Q/P ratio for both conditions increased with an increasing applied stress, the difference between the two conditions was negligible, (3) debris from dry samples contained titanium and oxides while the debris from seawater samples contained titanium, oxides, and seawater contaminants, (4) fretting scar volume was larger under seawater conditions than dry conditions, (5) there were more, closely spaced striations on the fracture surface of the dry samples than of the seawater samples, and (6) both the applied (far field) stress range and the Modified Shear Stress Range can potentially be used as conservative fretting fatigue parameters under high cycle fatigue conditions.

Mechanical and Microstructural Effects in Fretting Fatigue of Ti-6Al-4V

Mechanical and Microstructural Effects in Fretting Fatigue of Ti-6Al-4V PDF Author: Brett Page Conner
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781423533801
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 113

Book Description
Fretting fatigue is the repetitive sliding of contacting surfaces at small displacements and can cause cracking that leads to failure in the presence of a bulk fatigue load. Dovetail joints in gas turbine engines are particularly susceptible to fretting fatigue and are the motivation for this study. Experiments are conducted in ambient air utilizing a sphere-on-flat contact geometry since its contact mechanics are well known. The effect of changing critical contact and bulk loading parameters are examined in depth for a mill annealed and solution treated overaged variants of Ti-6Al-4V. Parameters which are instrumented and controlled include the applied normal load, tangential load, and axial fatigue load. The fretting fatigue resistance of several other heat treated variants of Ti-6Al-4V are compared versus the two more common variants. Various stages of fretting fatigue crack growth are examined using a fracture mechanics approach. A multiaxial stress-based crack initiation criteria is developed and evaluated. The adhesion model of Giannakopoulos et al., is invoked to determine a contact fatigue threshold of 2 MPa square root of m for Ti-6Al-4V and forms the basis of a life-prediction methodology. Finally, the usefulness of various surface treatments and dovetail designs as palliatives to counter fretting fatigue is discussed.
