El libro detalla los hechos anteriores a la salida de Cristobal Colon de Palos de Moguer, el 3 de agosto de 1492, hacia Canarias de donde partio el 6 de septiembre, descubriendo San Salvador el 12 de octubre y otras islas de las Bahamas, llegando a Cuba el 27 y a otra isla que llamaron espanola, el 12 de noviembre donde dejaron un fuerte, regresando a Espana el 4 de enero, donde llegaron el 15 de marzo, creyendo que habian visitado las costas de Asia, Colon dio tres viajes mas descubriendo las Antillas, centro y Sudamerica, pero la informacion de estas tierras no se correspondia con las costas de Asia, hasta que en 1507 se publicaron escritos de Americo Vespucio que las describian como un Nuevo Mundo con el nombre de America. Espana organiza un imperio para colonizar esos territorios y Francia e Inglaterra establecen colonias en America del Norte. Los territorios se convirtieron en paises que, en el siglo XIX, comienzan a luchar por su independencia, siendo Cuba la ultima en 1899.

This intriguing study of Mexico's participation in world's fairs from 1889 to 1929 explores Mexico's self-presentation at these fairs as a reflection of the country's drive toward nationalization and a modernized image. Mauricio Tenorio-Trillo contrasts Mexico's presence at the 1889 Paris fair—where its display was the largest and most expensive Mexico has ever mounted—with Mexico's presence after the 1910 Mexican Revolution at fairs in Rio de Janeiro in 1922 and Seville in 1929. Rather than seeing the revolution as a sharp break, Tenorio-Trillo points to important continuities between the pre- and post-revolution periods. He also discusses how, internationally, the character of world's fairs was radically transformed during this time, from the Eiffel Tower prototype, encapsulating a wondrous symbolic universe, to the Disneyland model of commodified entertainment. The International Assessment of Agricultural Knowledge, Science, and Technology for Development (IAASTD) looks realistically at how we could effectively use agriculture/AKST to help us meet development and sustainability goals. An unprecedented three-year collaborative effort, the IAASTD involved more than 400 authors in 110 countries and cost more than $11 million. It reports on the advances and setbacks of the past fifty years and offers options for the next fifty years. The results of the project are contained in seven reports: a Global Report, five regional Sub-Global Assessments, and a Synthesis Report. The Global Report gives the key findings of the Assessment, and the five Sub-Global Assessments address regional challenges. The volumes present options for action. All of the reports have been extensively peer-reviewed by governments and experts and all have been approved by a panel of participating governments.
