Le programme ERASMUS (EuRopean community Action Schema for the Mobility of University Students), mis en place en 1987 pour promouvoir à la fois la mobilité et la reconnaissance mutuelle des diplômes en Europe, ne concerne, aujourd'hui encore, qu'une minorité. Certes, le nombre total d'étudiants européens en mobilité s'est accru depuis son institutionnalisation, mais le programme ERASMUS permet-il une réelle démocratisation de l'accès à la mobilité et des " débouchés " qui lui sont associés ? L'augmentation de l'offre de séjour à l'étranger semble plutôt accélérer un mouvement de spécialisation sociale des filières d'études et des destinations. Loin des récits inspirés par le psychologisme ambiant et de la rhétorique ou des prophéties sur la mondialisation, il s'agit dans cet ouvrage de répondre empiriquement à ces questions et d'interroger les discours sur le programme ERASMUS, comme étant populaire et enrichissant.

This collection explores student mobility and study abroad programmes across Europe, presenting original research on personal, linguistic, and intercultural development during study abroad experiences. The volume synthesizes work from the 2016-2020 Cost Action 15130 ‘Study Abroad Research in European Perspective’ research network, offering a multidisciplinary account of the intersection of language learning and study abroad in Europe amidst the changing contemporary higher education landscape, as well as new directions for future research.
