Specification and Verification of Concurrent Systems

Specification and Verification of Concurrent Systems PDF Author: Charles Rattray
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media

Book Description
This volume contains papers presented at the BCS-FACS Workshop on Specification and Verification of Concurrent Systems held on 6-8 July 1988, at the University of Stirling, Scotland. Specification and verification techniques are playing an increasingly important role in the design and production of practical concurrent systems. The wider application of these techniques serves to identify difficult problems that require new approaches to their solution and further developments in specification and verification. The Workshop aimed to capture this interplay by providing a forum for the exchange of the experience of academic and industrial experts in the field. Presentations included: surveys, original research, practical experi ence with methods, tools and environments in the following or related areas: Object-oriented, process, data and logic based models and specifi cation methods for concurrent systems Verification of concurrent systems Tools and environments for the analysis of concurrent systems Applications of specification languages to practical concurrent system design and development. We should like to thank the invited speakers and all the authors of the papers whose work contributed to making the Workshop such a success. We were particularly pleased with the international response to our call for papers. Invited Speakers Pierre America Philips Research Laboratories University of Warwick Professor M. Formal Description Techniques and Protocol Specification, Testing and Verification

Formal Description Techniques and Protocol Specification, Testing and Verification PDF Author: Stan Budkowski
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9780412847608
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 486

Book Description
Formal Description Techniques and Protocol Specification, Testing and Verification addresses formal description techniques (FDTs) applicable to distributed systems and communication protocols. It aims to present the state of the art in theory, application, tools and industrialization of FDTs. Among the important features presented are: FDT-based system and protocol engineering; FDT-application to distributed systems; Protocol engineering; Practical experience and case studies. Formal Description Techniques and Protocol Specification, Testing and Verification comprises the proceedings of the Joint International Conference on Formal Description Techniques for Distributed Systems and Communication Protocols and Protocol Specification, Testing and Verification, sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing, held in November 1998, Paris, France. Formal Description Techniques and Protocol Specification, Testing and Verification is suitable as a secondary text for a graduate-level course on Distributed Systems or Communications, and as a reference for researchers and practitioners in industry.

Temporal Logics and Their Applications

Temporal Logics and Their Applications PDF Author: Antony Galton
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 264

Book Description
FROM THE PREFACE: This book has risen from a conference on Temporal Logic and Its Applications held at the University of Leeds in January 1986, under the auspices of the then newly-created Centre for Theoretical Computer Science. Temporal logic is a field which, having originated within philosophy, has now proved to be of relevance to several distinct areas in computer science. In this publication, all of the aspects of temporal logic are treated together, hopefully providing a stimulus to further inter-disciplinary collaboration, not only as regards temporal logic itself but also in connection with other logical and philosophical issues, which lie at the interface between computing and philosophy.

Correct Hardware Design and Verification Methods

Correct Hardware Design and Verification Methods PDF Author: George J. Milne
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783540567783
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 284

Book Description
These proceedings contain the papers presented at the Advanced Research Working Conference on Correct Hardware Design Methodologies, held in Arles, France, in May 1993, and organized by the ESPRIT Working Group 6018 CHARME-2and the Universit de Provence, Marseille, in cooperation with IFIP Working Group 10.2. Formal verification is emerging as a plausible alternative to exhaustive simulation for establishing correct digital hardware designs. The validation of functional and timing behavior is a major bottleneck in current VLSI design systems, slowing the arrival of products in the marketplace with its associated increase in cost. From being a predominantly academic area of study until a few years ago, formal design and verification techniques are now beginning to migrate into industrial use. As we are now witnessing an increase in activity in this area in both academia and industry, the aim of this working conference was to bring together researchers and users from both communities.

CONCUR '92

CONCUR '92 PDF Author: Walter R. Cleaveland
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783540558224
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 596

Book Description
This book contains a selection of research papers describing recent advancesin the theory of concurrent systems and their applications. The papers were all presented at the CONCUR '92 conference, which has emerged as the premiere conference on formal aspects of concurrency. The authors include such prominent researchers as R. Milner, A. Pnueli, N. Lynch, and V.R. Pratt. The results represent advances in the mathematical understanding of the behavior of concurrent systems: topics covered include process algebras, models of true concurrency, compositional verification techniques, temporal logic, verification case studies, models of probabilistic and real-time systems, models of systems with dynamic structure, and algorithms and decidability results for system analysis. A key feature of CONCUR is its breadth: in one volume it presents a snapshot of the state of the art in concurrency theory. Assuch, it is indispensible to researchers - and would-be researchers - in theformal analysis of concurrent systems.
