Epistemology and the Predicates of Education
Author: Thomas Peterson
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000497283
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 192
Book Description
Exploring the predicates of education from theoretical, practical and historical perspectives, this book revalorizes the central role of the humanities in the ethical and aesthetic formation of the individual. This book considers timely questions of process and epistemology in today’s academy. It examines the subject of learning as it arises in the individual, is defined by educators, and is conceived by society at large. In attempting to formulate a lingua franca for contemporary pedagogy, the book highlights the concrete activities of educators and students and the qualities that emerge in the educational process. By synthesizing the writings of educational theorists working in different fields—philosophy, psychology, anthropology and more—Epistemology and the Predicates of Education highlights the transformational nature of knowledge and its capacity to invigorate the student through the practice of self-inquiry. The analytical and focused research offered in Epistemology and the Predicates of Education will be of interest to researchers, academics and postgraduate students in the fields of philosophy of education and higher education.

The Semantic Theory of Knowledge
Author: Adam Olech
Publisher: Modernity in Question
ISBN: 9783631797198
Category : Knowledge, Theory of
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
The aim of this book is the analysis of Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz's meta-epistemological project of the semantic theory of knowledge and its implementations to solve certain traditional epistemological problems and their metaphysical consequences. This project claims that cognitive problems need to be approached from the perspective of language. One of the results of this analysis is the thesis that the philosophical-linguistic legitimisation for the meta-epistemological project is the philosophy of Edmund Husserl from his Logical Investigations. This is the philosophy that makes it possible to speak reasonably of a close relation between thinking and language and provides thereby the legitimisation for this project.

The Logic of Epistemology and the Epistemology of Logic
Author: Jaakko Hintikka
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400926472
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 278
Book Description
Somewhat like Henkin's nonstandard interpretation of higher-order logics, while the right semantics [or logical modalities is an analogue to the standard of type theory in Henkin's sense. interpretation Another possibility would be to follow W.V. Quine's advice to give up logi cal modalities as being beyond repair. Or we could also try to develop a logic of conceptual possibility, restricting the range of our "possible worlds" to those compatible with the transcendental presuppositions of our own conceptual sys tem. This looks in fact like one of the most interesting possible theories I have dreamt of developing but undoubtedly never will. Its kinship with Kant's way of thinking should be obvious. Besides putting the entire enterprise of possible-worlds semantics into a perspective, we can also see that the actual history of possible-worlds seman tics is more complicated than it might first appear to be. For the standard in terpretation of modal logics has reared its beautiful head repeatedly in the writings of Stig Kanger, Richard Montague the pre-Montague-semantics theorist, and Nino Cocchiarella.
