Electromagnetic Fields and Life

Electromagnetic Fields and Life PDF Author: A. Presman
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475706359
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 349

Book Description
A broad region of the electromagnetic spectrum long assumed to have no influence on living systems under natural conditions has been critically re-examinjld over the past decade. This spectral region extends from the superhigh radio frequencies, through de creasing frequencies, to and including essentially static electric and magnetic fields. The author of this monograph, A. S. Presman, has reviewed not only the extensive Russian literatur!;"l, but also al most equally comprehensively the non-Russian literature, dealing with biological influences of these fields. Treated also is literature shedding some light on possible theoretical foundations for these phenomena. A substantial, rapidly increaSing number of studies in many laboratories and countries has now clearly established bio logical influences which are independent of the theoretically pre dictable, simple thermal effects. Indeed many of the effects are produced by field strengths very close to those within the natural environment. The author has, even more importantly, set forth a novel, imaginative general hypothesis in which it is postulated that such electromagnetic fields normally serve as conveyors of information from the environment to the organism, within the organism, and among organisms. He postulates that in the course of evolution or ganisms have come to employ these fields in conjunction with the well-known sensory, nervous, and endocrine systems in effecting coordination and integration.

Geometry of Electromagnetic Systems

Geometry of Electromagnetic Systems PDF Author: D. Baldomir
Publisher: Oxford University Press on Demand
ISBN: 9780198591870
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 239

Book Description
This book is addressed to engineers, applied mathematicians, and physicists involved in the design and analysis of electromagnetic systems. Its chief purpose is to clarify the structure of electromagnetism. It begins with the Faraday-Maxwell insight that in electromagnetism one is faced withan interconnected dynamical system in which space and time are closely linked with physical phenomena. An appropriate basis is given via differential geometry to describe local relationships, via and topology to describe the system. These tools are introduced in the context of Maxwell's equations inthe familiar vector notation. Equations are greatly simplified by the geometrical approach, and the geometrical idea of symmetry unifies the various conservation laws. This book clarifies the relationship between fields, potentials, and sources. Links between macroscopic and quantum phenomena areexplored from a geometric angle and there is a simple discussion of superconductivity.

Applications of Advanced Electromagnetics

Applications of Advanced Electromagnetics PDF Author: Guennadi A. Kouzaev
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642303102
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 542

Book Description
This text, directed to the microwave engineers and Master and PhD students, is on the use of electromagnetics to the development and design of advanced integrated components distinguished by their extended field of applications. The results of hundreds of authors scattered in numerous journals and conference proceedings are carefully reviewed and classed. Several chapters are to refresh the knowledge of readers in advanced electromagnetics. New techniques are represented by compact electromagnetic–quantum equations which can be used in modeling of microwave-quantum integrated circuits of future In addition, a topological method to the boundary value problem analysis is considered with the results and examples. One extended chapter is for the development and design of integrated components for extended bandwidth applications, and the technology and electromagnetic issues of silicon integrated transmission lines, transitions, filters, power dividers, directional couplers, etc are considered. Novel prospective interconnects based on different physical effects are reviewed as well. The ideas of topology is applicable to the electromagnetic signaling and computing, when the vector field maps can carry discrete information, and this area and the results in topological signaling obtained by different authors are analyzed, including the recently designed predicate logic processor operating spatially represented signal units. The book is rich of practical examples, illustrations, and references and useful for the specialists working at the edge of contemporary technology and electromagnetics.
