Studies on Porous Monolithic Materials Prepared via Sol–Gel Processes

Studies on Porous Monolithic Materials Prepared via Sol–Gel Processes PDF Author: George Hasegawa
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 4431541985
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 214

Book Description
This thesis focuses on porous monolithic materials that are not in the forms of particles, fibers, or films. In particular, the synthetic strategy of porous monolithic materials via the sol–gel method accompanied by phase separation, which is characterized as the non-templating method for tailoring well-defined macropores, is described from the basics to actual synthesis. Porous materials are attracting more and more attention in various fields such as electronics, energy storage, catalysis, sensing, adsorbents, biomedical science, and separation science. To date, many efforts have been made to synthesize porous materials in various chemical compositions—organics, inorganics including metals, glasses and ceramics, and organic-inorganic hybrids. Also demonstrated in this thesis are the potential applications of synthesized porous monolithic materials to separation media as well as to electrodes for electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) and Li-ion batteries (LIBs). This work is ideal for graduate students in materials science and is also useful to engineers or scientists seeking basic knowledge of porous monolithic materials.

Electrochemical Methods of Nanostructure Preparation

Electrochemical Methods of Nanostructure Preparation PDF Author: László Péter
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030691179
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 544

Book Description
This book summarizes the electrochemical routes of nanostructure preparation in a systematic and didactic manner. It provides a comprehensive overview of electrodeposition, anodization, carbon nanotube preparation and other methods of nanostructure fabrication, combining essential information on the physical background of electrochemistry with materials science aspects of the field. The book includes a brief introduction to general electrochemistry with an emphasis on physico-chemical aspects, followed by a description of the sample preparation methods. In each chapter, an overview of the particular method is accompanied by a discussion of the relevant physical or chemical properties of the materials, including magnetic, mechanical, optical, catalytic, sensoric and other features. While some preparation methods are discussed in connection with the theories of physical electrochemistry (e.g. electrodeposition), the book also covers methods that are more heuristic but nonetheless utilize electric current (e.g. anodization of porous alumina or synthesis of carbon nanotubes by means of electric arc discharge).

Application of Porous Materials in Electrochemical Sensing, Proton Selective 2D Membranes and Electrolyzers

Application of Porous Materials in Electrochemical Sensing, Proton Selective 2D Membranes and Electrolyzers PDF Author: Pavan Chaturvedi
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 412

Book Description
Among the nanomaterials, nanoporous materials occupy a special place as they represent macroscopic objects with unique 'nanoscopic' properties but typically produced top down approach. Their applications are quite broad, from filtration, catalysis, and energy materials, to sensors and adsorbents. Here, we discuss some of such applications in the field of biosensors, electrochemistry, and fuel cell technology. We illustrate how a simple sensor for viral particles (mimicked here by MS2 bacteriophage) based on ionic conductivity through nanopores can be realized using anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane and a computer sound card as an input/output detector. With the current optimized system, we can achieve the low concentration detection of ~ 7pfu/mL with a working range up to ~ 2000 pfu/mL.
