This issue of the Journal of Latin American Theology is dedicated to the memory of C. René Padilla (1932–2021). In “The Life and Legacy of C. René Padilla,” historian Daniel Salinas presents the essential events of René’s life and ministry. In 2008, Darren C. Marks published René’s own account of his theological journey in Shaping a Global Theological Mind. We are grateful to reprint “My Theological Pilgrimage,” in which René described the factors that contributed to his development as a theologian and practitioner. Next, the five children René had with his late wife Catharine Feser Padilla offer a heartfelt overview of their father’s life. Este libro es continuación de otro trabajo de los mismos autores publicado bajo el título: Llamados Por Dios: Una Reflexión Teológica en Torno a la Vocación y Compromiso de por Vida (Madrid, Editorial de Espiritualidad EDE, 1994). Desde una perspectiva relacional y evolutiva sobre el misterio de la vocación, los autores exponen en el siguiente estudio los principios de discernimiento para la vida de matrimonio cristiano, de vida célibe o de vida soltera. En la vocación al matrimonio, ven como elemento fundamental la llamada de Dios a ambos cónyuges a ser instrumento único y especialísimo en el proceso de purificaciónón y transformación espiritual del otro. Identifican la base de la vocación al celibato con una especial relación entre Jesús y la persona célibe que hace a ésta prácticamente “incasable”, “indesposable” (por así decirlo) por Cristo y por su Evangelio. Juzgan que lo propio de la vocación a la vida de soltería es el testimonio de cierta independencia por la causa del Reino. A la luz de lo que es primordial de cada vocación, los autores presentan señales que parecen indicar una llamada auténtica. Este libro puede resultar de interés no solo para quienes estén discerniendo su vocación personal, sino también para los/as guías que estén acompañándoles en este proceso.
