Before the Big Bang

Before the Big Bang PDF Author: Laura Mersini-Houghton
Publisher: HarperCollins
ISBN: 1328557146
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 256

Book Description
"A riveting tour of the cosmos from one of the brightest minds in astrophysics." —The Washington Post A revolutionary new account of our universe’s creation—and a breathtaking exploration of the landscape from which we sprang—from one of the world’s most celebrated cosmologists What came before the Big Bang, and what exists outside of the universe it created? Until recently, scientists could only guess at what lay past the edge of space-time. However, as pioneering theoretical physicist Laura Mersini-Houghton explains, new scientific tools are now giving us the ability to peer beyond the limits of our universe and to test our theories about what is there. And what we are finding is upending everything we thought we knew about the cosmos and our place in it. Mersini-Houghton is no stranger to boundaries—or to pushing through them. As a child growing up in Communist Albania, she discovered a universe beyond her walled-off world through the study of math and science, and through music. As a female cosmologist in a male-dominated field, she transcended the limits that society and her profession tried to place on her. And as a trailblazing researcher, she helped to revolutionize the study of our universe by revealing that, far from living in a cosmic Albania, with a world that ends at its borders, we are part of a larger family of universes—a multiverse—that holds wonders we are only beginning to unlock. Mersini-Houghton’s groundbreaking research suggests that we sit in a quantum landscape whose peaks and valleys hide a multitude of other universes, and even hold the secret to the origins of existence itself. Recent evidence has revealed the signatures of such sibling universes in our own night sky, confirming Mersini-Houghton’s theoretical work and offering humbling evidence that our universe is just one member of an unending cosmic family. The incredible scientific saga of one woman’s mind-expanding journey through the multiverse, Before the Big Bang will reshape our understanding of humanity’s place in the unfathomable vastness of the cosmos.

A Salute to Our Veterans

A Salute to Our Veterans PDF Author: Irene J. Dumas
Publisher: Trafford Publishing
ISBN: 1412071305
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 186

Book Description
A Salute To Our Veterans is a book about individual stories that veterans have told the writer during interviews, what they did as youngsters, about when they were old enough to go to war, where they signed up, went to basic training, what unit they served with, and where they fought during the wars. In the book are stories never told before by 29 veterans of World War II, 10 Korean War veterans, and six veterans from the Vietnam War and others. In the book are sailors, solders, marines and Air Force men. The stories mention the ships they were apart of and the ships that carried them to battles. The World War II veterans have told me stories of battles that they fought 60 years ago, and they are still fresh in their minds. It was amazing that when I put it down on paper, they wanted to check to see if I was as precise as they were. They never forget. Some people that read the stories will be able to relate to them, for they may have been at the same battle. Readers may find in my book someone they use to know, a lost comrade. The veterans remembered the units they fought with also. There is also a whole history of events that took you back to places during the wars. One of the veterans gives a full detailed story about his experiences in Vietnam, when he was fighting during Vietnam's worst fighting, the Tet Offensive and Khe Shan Operations. It also features a US Marine stationed in China after the end of WWII. After reading this book, you will be more aware that there are veterans like the ones in the book in your neighborhood. You might even want to give them one of these books for a gift.

Heaven, eternity, and perfection

Heaven, eternity, and perfection PDF Author: Carlos Altamirano-Morales
Publisher: Carlos Altamirano-Morales
ISBN:
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 234

Book Description
This book is a collection of essays and reflections on the relationship between faith and reason by a family man aware that he and his wife are the first educators of their children. The first essay is the longest and the one that gives the title to this work as a whole. Some of the questions it raises and tries to answer are: What does heaven mean to believers today? Is it the same as the heaven where the sun, the other stars, the moon, and the planets are? And if we distinguish one heaven from the other today, was it ever considered the same? Why? And what about the writings that speak of "the heavens" in the plural? What relationship does the heavenly have with the eternal and with the perfect? Is perfect merely the absence of errors? What do we understand by eternal? Is eternal life the same as living forever or for all the years the universe has ahead of it?

El Hombre ¿Azar o Diseño?

El Hombre ¿Azar o Diseño? PDF Author: José Francisco Martinez Garcia
Publisher: Palibrio
ISBN: 1463327080
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 181

Book Description
