Book Description
Tom Lasino, army veteran and college physics professor, has his mundane life turned upside down when he is contacted by a CIA agent. Tom is recruited to become part of a top-secret mission. He receives a briefing aboard a yacht anchored off Maryland's Tilghman Island. At the briefing Tom discovers that the CIA agent is Jennifer Blake, a long ago friend with whom he had lost all contact. The CIA, Tom learns, has uncovered a terrorist nuclear plot that will be unleashed somewhere in the United States, and Kurt Hansen, a former nuclear artillery soldier turned criminal soon to be released from Leavenworth, is behind the plot. Tom, after much weapons and martial arts training in addition to intense intelligence briefings, is inserted into Leavenworth prison as a prisoner. He is to befriend Hansen, learn what he can about Hansen's plot, and connect with him again when they are released from prison in a month. In prison Tom learns how much hatred Hansen has for the United States and it's government. Upon their release Tom continues to play the role, but also begins to develop an intense relationship with Jennifer. Tom and the entire team of six use their collective wits to discover the location and details of Hansen's plot, but their discoveries come at a high cost for all the key players. The many twists and turns in Eagles Don't Die keep you guessing to the very end. This fictional story, which brings the reader face to face with the reality of terror and homeland security, is based on an incident that actually occurred in 1971 involving a nuclear military device. Today's world events make this a very timely tale. Eagles Don't Die won First Prize in the Action-Adventure Category of the 2006 Maryland Writers' Association International Novel Contest.

The Bald Eagle: The Improbable Journey of America's Bird

The Bald Eagle: The Improbable Journey of America's Bird PDF Author: Jack E. Davis
Publisher: Liveright Publishing
ISBN: 1631495267
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 432

Book Description
Best Books of the Month: Wall Street Journal, Kirkus Reviews From the Pulitzer Prize–winning author of The Gulf, a sweeping cultural and natural history of the bald eagle in America. The bald eagle is regal but fearless, a bird you’re not inclined to argue with. For centuries, Americans have celebrated it as “majestic” and “noble,” yet savaged the living bird behind their national symbol as a malicious predator of livestock and, falsely, a snatcher of babies. Taking us from before the nation’s founding through inconceivable resurgences of this enduring all-American species, Jack E. Davis contrasts the age when native peoples lived beside it peacefully with that when others, whether through hunting bounties or DDT pesticides, twice pushed Haliaeetus leucocephalus to the brink of extinction. Filled with spectacular stories of Founding Fathers, rapacious hunters, heroic bird rescuers, and the lives of bald eagles themselves—monogamous creatures, considered among the animal world’s finest parents—The Bald Eagle is a much-awaited cultural and natural history that demonstrates how this bird’s wondrous journey may provide inspiration today, as we grapple with environmental peril on a larger scale.

Book Description
The Eagle has the longest life-span of its species. It can live up to 70 years. But to reach this age, the eagle must make a very difficult decision! In its 40th year, the eagle's long and flexible Talons can no longer grab a prey which serves as food. Its long and sharp beak becomes bent. Its old-aged and heavy wings, due to their thick feathers, stick to its chest and make it difficult to fly. Then, the eagle is left with only two options: DIE or go through a painful process of CHANGE!This process lasts for 150 days (5 months). The process requires the eagle to fly to a mountain top and sit on its nest. There the eagle knocks its beak against a rock until it plucks it out. Then the eagle will wait for the new beak to grow back after which it will pluck out its talons. When its talons grow back, the eagle starts plucking its old-aged feathers. And after this, the eagle takes its famous flight of rebirth and LIVES for 30 more years!!Why is Change needed In order to survive and live.We too have to start the change process. We sometimes need to get rid of the unpleasant old memories, negative habits, and our fixed mindset.Only when freed from the past burdens can we take advantage of the present. If an eagle can make a life-saving and life-changing decision at the age of 40, why can't we?In order to take on a new journey ahead, let go of your negative old limiting beliefs.Open up your mind and let yourself fly high like an eagle! When it rains, all birds occupy shelter. But the EAGLE avoids the rain by flying above the clouds! The problem is common to all but the attitude to solve it makes the difference.Don't be afraid of change. Accept it gracefully. My questions to you is this!Do you want to fly with the eagles or scratch with the turkeys?Over to you!

Book Description
“Stand up, old man!”, Agon said to himself. “Go to your grave for you are not dead yet… You have lived like an eagle, so die like an eagle! Don’t let those coward sparrows make fun of you…” The Old Agon’s wings were weaker, feathers shed and talons blunted. He could neither fly nor eat. He was either going to die or be reborn out of the ashes. It wouldn’t be appropriate for the lord of the sky to cry in despair. Even his death should have been legendary. Because an eagle would never hunt flies! Agon neither let sparrows make fun of him nor hunted flies…

The Eagle Watchers

The Eagle Watchers PDF Author: Ruth Tingay
Publisher: Comstock Publishing Associates
ISBN: 0801459389
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 260

Book Description
Eagles have fascinated humans for millennia. For some, the glimpse of a distant eagle instantly becomes a treasured lifelong memory. Others may never encounter a wild eagle in their lifetime. This book was written by people who have dedicated years to the study of eagles, to provide an insider's view for all readers, but especially those who have never been up close and personal with these magnificent yet often misunderstood creatures. In their stories, twenty-nine leading eagle researchers share their remarkable field experiences, providing personal narratives that don't feature in their scientific publications. They tell of their fear at being stalked by grizzly bears, their surprise at being followed by the secret police, their embarrassment when accidentally firing mortar rockets over a school gymnasium, and their sense of awe at tracking eagles via satellite. The reader experiences the cultural shock of being guest of honor at a circumcision ceremony, the absurdity of sharing an aquatic car with the Khmer Rouge, and the sense of foreboding at being press-ganged into a frenzied tribal death march through the jungle. The Eagle Watchers covers twenty-four species on six continents, from well known (bald eagle; golden eagle), to obscure (black-and-chestnut eagle; New Guinea harpy eagle), and from common (African fish eagle) to critically endangered (Philippine eagle; Madagascar fish eagle). The diverse experiences vividly described in this book reveal the passion, dedication, and sense of adventure shared by those who study these majestic birds and strive for their conservation. Featuring stunning color photographs of the eagles, information on raptor conservation, a global list of all eagle species with ranges and conservation status, and a color map of the sites visited in the book, The Eagle Watchers will appeal to birders, conservationists, and adventure travelers alike. To further support the conservation programs described in this book, all royalties are being donated to two leading nonprofit organizations for raptor conservation training and fieldwork: Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Intern Program and the National Birds of Prey Trust.
