Spectroscopy, Dynamics and Molecular Theory of Carbon Plasmas and Vapors

Spectroscopy, Dynamics and Molecular Theory of Carbon Plasmas and Vapors PDF Author: Laszlo Nemes
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9812837647
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 536

Book Description
This book is a stop-gap contribution to the science and technology of carbon plasmas and carbon vapors. It strives to cover two strongly related fields: the molecular quantum theory of carbon plasmas and carbon nanostructures; and the molecular and atomic spectroscopy of such plasmas and vapors. These two fields of research are strongly intertwined and thus reinforce one another.Even though the use of carbon nanostructures is increasing by the day and their practical uses are emerging, there is no modern review on carbon plasmas, especially from molecular theoretical and spectroscopic viewpoints. The importance of the present book is therefore great from both educational and practical aspects. This review might be the first step towards bringing such textbooks into existence for university education. Similarly, for applied and engineering works in carbon nanostructures, the book provides a theoretical salient point for technologists in the field.

Diffusion in Materials - DIMAT 2011

Diffusion in Materials - DIMAT 2011 PDF Author: I. Bezverkhyy
Publisher:
ISBN: 9783037853979
Category : Diffusion
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
The International Conference on Diffusion in Materials (DIMAT) is the benchmark conference series for diffusion in solids. DIMAT 2011 was organized by the University of Bourgogne in association with CNRS, Dijon (France). The conference showcased new results concerning theoretical tools as well as applied research approaches. Diffusion processes affect all types of materials: nanomaterials, materials for energy, metallurgy, glasses and ceramics, but each requires its own numerical tools.Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS). This volume comprises most of the contributions presented at DIMAT 2011: 4 plenary lectures delivered by famous high-level scientists plus 88 contributions in the form of keynote lectures, talks and posters.

In Situ Electron and Tunneling Microscopy of Dynamic Processes: Volume 404

In Situ Electron and Tunneling Microscopy of Dynamic Processes: Volume 404 PDF Author: Renu Sharma
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 250

Book Description
Electron microscopy techniques are among the most powerful methods for characterization of materials, with the ability to reveal both the atomic-scale structure and composition. This information may be used to elucidate macroscopic properties or to optimize materials synthesis and processing. Instrumentation and techniques for dynamic in situ experiments are undergoing rapid development and have recently been applied to a wide range of problems. This book focuses on time-resolved electron microscopy (including diffraction and spectroscopy), as well as novel instrumentation for temperature and pressure control. In addition to discussing the application of electron microscopy techniques to the in situ study of the kinetics, thermodynamics and mechanisms of reaction, the book also explores their utility as efficient methods of optimizing processing conditions. Imaging techniques featured include: scanning tunneling microscopy, high-resolution electron microscopy, dark field transmission and reflection electron microscopy, Lorentz microscopy, electron holography, scanning and low-energy electron microscopy and photoemission electron microscopy

Plasmas at High Temperature and Density

Plasmas at High Temperature and Density PDF Author: Heinrich Hora

Book Description
"New physics" is an appealing new keyword, not yet devalued by the ravages of inflation. But what has this to do with such an ugly field as plasma physics, steeped in classical physics, mostly outworn, with all its unsolved and ambiguous technological problems and its messy and open ended numerical studies? "New physics" is concerned with quarks, Higgs particles, grand unified theory, super strings, gravitational waves, and the profound basics of cosmology and black holes. It is the field of astonishing quantum effects, demonstrated by the von Klitzing effect and high temperature superconductors. But what can plasma physicists offer, after so many years of expensive and frustrating research to solve the problem of fusion energy? One may suggest that the fascinating research ofchaos with applications to plasma, or the achievements of statistical mechanics applied to plasmas, has something to offer and should be the subject of attention. However, this is not the aim of this book. Complementing the traditional aim of physics, which is to interpret the phenomena of nature by generalizing laws such that exact predictions about new properties and effects can be drawn, this book demonstrates how new physics has been derived over the last 30 years from the state of matter which exists at high temperatures (plasma).
