Diffusion Processes in Advanced Technological Materials

Diffusion Processes in Advanced Technological Materials PDF Author: Devendra Gupta
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9780080947082
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 552

Book Description
This new game book for understanding atoms at play aims to document diffusion processes and various other properties operative in advanced technological materials. Diffusion in functional organic chemicals, polymers, granular materials, complex oxides, metallic glasses, and quasi-crystals among other advanced materials is a highly interactive and synergic phenomenon. A large variety of atomic arrangements are possible. Each arrangement affects the performance of these advanced, polycrystalline multiphase materials used in photonics, MEMS, electronics, and other applications of current and developing interest. This book is written by pioneers in industry and academia for engineers, chemists, and physicists in industry and academia at the forefront of today's challenges in nanotechnology, surface science, materials science, and semiconductors.

Advanced Diffusion Processes and Phenomena

Advanced Diffusion Processes and Phenomena PDF Author: Andreas Öchsner
Publisher: Trans Tech Publications Ltd
ISBN: 3038265144
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 234

Book Description
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters BCI (WoS). This topical volume on Advanced Diffusion Processes and Phenomena addresses diffusion in a wider sense of not only mass diffusion but also heat diffusion in fluids and solids. Both diffusion phenomena play an important role in the characterization of engineering materials and corresponding structures. Understanding these different transport phenomena at many levels, from atomistic to macro, has therefore long attracted the attention of many researchers in materials science and engineering and related disciplines. The present topical volume captures a representative cross-section of some of the recent advances in the area of mass and heat transport. Reflecting the enormous breadth of the area, the range of topics covered is accordingly very large.

Diffusion in Materials - DIMAT 2011

Diffusion in Materials - DIMAT 2011 PDF Author: Igor Bezverkhyy
Publisher: Trans Tech Publications Ltd
ISBN: 3038137030
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 600

Book Description
The International Conference on Diffusion in Materials (DIMAT) is the benchmark conference series for diffusion in solids. DIMAT 2011 was organized by the University of Bourgogne in association with CNRS, Dijon (France). The conference showcased new results concerning theoretical tools as well as applied research approaches. Diffusion processes affect all types of materials: nanomaterials, materials for energy, metallurgy, glasses and ceramics, but each requires its own numerical tools. Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS). This volume comprises most of the contributions presented at DIMAT 2011: 4 plenary lectures delivered by famous high-level scientists plus 88 contributions in the form of keynote lectures, talks and posters.

Recent Developments of Diffusion Processes and their Applications: Fluid, Heat and Mass

Recent Developments of Diffusion Processes and their Applications: Fluid, Heat and Mass PDF Author: Andreas Öchsner
Publisher: Trans Tech Publications Ltd
ISBN: 3038269158
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 215

Book Description
This topical volume on "Recent Developments of Diffusion Processes and their Applications: Fluid, Heat and Mass" addresses diffusion in a wider sense with a special focus on technical applications. Diffusion phenomena play an important role in the development of modern engineering materials and related fields. Understanding these different transport phenomena at many levels, from atomistic to macro, has therefore long attracted the attention of many researchers in materials science and engineering and related disciplines. The present topical volume captures a representative cross-section of some of the recent advances in the area of diffusive transport. Reflecting the enormous breadth of the area, the range of topics covered is accordingly very large. Topics include classical mass diffusion problems such as phase transformations, corrosion behavior, thin layers and microstructures. Technical applications related to fuel production and energy conversion, biological and biomedical material are treated. Many of these topics are related to experimental measurements and methods as well as simulation and approaches to predict properties and processes.

Diffusion Phenomena in Engineering Materials

Diffusion Phenomena in Engineering Materials PDF Author: Irina V. Belova
Publisher: Trans Tech Publications Ltd
ISBN: 3038269638
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 170

Book Description
This volume of Diffusion Foundations entitled Diffusion Phenomena in Engineering Materials captures an important cross section of the contemporary scene of diffusion in solids, ranging from the fundamental science of diffusion through to the application of diffusion concepts in technology. The chapters are written by well-acknowledged experts in their respective areas. In the first chapter, Professor Dayananda provides an in depth overview of some of the important findings from the vast literature on multicomponent diffusion in alloys. In Chapter 2, Professors Belova and Murch and co-workers describe a new solution to the important problem of accurately estimating a tracer diffusivity in a binary alloy, given the other tracer diffusivity, the interdiffusivity and thermodynamic factor. This is followed by Chapter 3 where Professor Lidiard gives a penetrating perspective on the state of knowledge about the Soret effect and thermodiffusion (thermotransport) in solids. In Chapter 4, Professor Kozlowski and colleagues describe important new findings about the critical dimensions of ferromagnetic nanoparticles of iron. This is followed by Chapter 5 where Professor çimenoglu and co-workers present an in depth overview of surface hardening of titanium and its alloys by way of diffusion of the interstitial atoms of oxygen, nitrogen and boron. In Chapter 6 Professor Morton-Blake describes fascinating new molecular dynamics simulations of sodium and chloride ions in a synthetic ion channel in a membrane. Finally, in Chapter 7, Professor Seetharaman and colleagues describe the important role of diffusion phenomena in process metallurgy. We wish to thank the authors for their prompt contributions and the reviewers for their input.
