Compact Synchrotron Light Sources

Compact Synchrotron Light Sources PDF Author: Ernst Weihreter
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814499668
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 230

Book Description
This book covers a new niche in circular accelerator design, motivated by the promising industrial prospects of recent micromanufacturing methods — X-ray lithography, synchrotron radiation-based micromachining and microanalysis techniques. It describes the basic concepts and the essential challenges for the development of compact synchrotron radiation sources from an accelerator designer's point of view and gives an outline of the actual state of the art. The volume is intended as an introduction and as a reference for physicists, engineers and managers involved in this rapidly developing field.

Nanofabrication Handbook

Nanofabrication Handbook PDF Author: Stefano Cabrini
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1420090526
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 548

Book Description
While many books are dedicated to individual aspects of nanofabrication, there is no single source that defines and explains the total vision of the field. Filling this gap, Nanofabrication Handbook presents a unique collection of new and the most important established approaches to nanofabrication. Contributors from leading research facilities and academic institutions around the world define subfields, offer practical instructions and examples, and pave the way for future research. Helping readers to select the proper fabricating technique for their experiments, the book provides a broad vision of the most critical problems and explains how to solve them. It includes basic definitions and introduces the main underlying concepts of nanofabrication. The book also discusses the major advantages and disadvantages of each approach and offers a wide variety of examples of cutting-edge applications. Each chapter focuses on a particular method or aspect of study. For every method, the contributors describe the underlying theoretical basis, resolution, patterns and substrates used, and applications. They show how applications at the nanoscale require a different process and understanding than those at the microscale. For each experiment, they elucidate key solutions to problems relating to materials, methods, and surface considerations. A complete resource for this rapidly emerging interdisciplinary field, this handbook provides practical information for planning the experiments of any project that employs nanofabrication techniques. It gives readers a foundation to enter the complex world of nanofabrication and inspires the scientific community at large to push the limits of nanometer resolution.

Synchrotron Radiation

Synchrotron Radiation PDF Author: Helmut Wiedemann
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662053128
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 281

Book Description
In this book the characteristics of synchrotron radiation, including insertion device radiation, are described and derived from first principles. The reader is first introduced to the subject in an intuitive way in order to gain familiarity with the underlying physical processes. A rigorous mathematical derivation of the theory follows. Since the characteristics of synchrotron radiation are intimately connected with the parameters of the electron beam and its accelerator, a basic introduction to electron beam dynamics and accelerator design is included. The book is aimed at graduate students and scientists working with synchrotron radiation.

Touschek Lifetime Studies and Optimization of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility

Touschek Lifetime Studies and Optimization of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility PDF Author: Nicola Carmignani
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9783319798424
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 102

Book Description
This thesis describes the experimental and theoretical basics of free electron laser science, serving as an excellent introduction for newcomers to this young field. Beyond that, it addresses electron-beam lifetimes in third-generation synchrotron light sources, in particular with a view to optimizing them in the forthcoming ESRF upgrade. The lifetime of the electron beam in a storage ring is a measure of how fast electrons are being lost, and is thus an essential parameter determining the required injection frequency, which in turn affects beam stability and power consumption. The main limitation on the beam lifetime in these synchrotron light sources is the Touschek effect, i.e. the single scattering between two electrons in a bunch. In this thesis a model able to predict the Touschek lifetime is presented. The model is successfully tested against measurements and used to study the influence of other parameters such as current and size of vacuum chamber. Not least, it enables the settings of sextupole magnets to be optimized.
