Author: Edward Caudill
Publisher: Univ. of Tennessee Press
ISBN: 9781572334526
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 212
Book Description
Caudill, whose Darwin in the Press (Lawrence Erlbaum Assoc., 1989) covered similar ground, here adds little to the corpus of rich literature on Darwinian evolution; his discussions of the theory's misapplications have been covered thoroughly by other researchers. He focuses here on documentation from the popular press, which, he argues, has been overlooked. In doing so Caudill ignores much of the extensive research by contemporary scientists and historians of science. Caudill also often refers to articles without author attribution, using phrases such as "a German doctor" or "a Harvard professor." The reader must go to the notes to identify the author and to assess Caudill's comments and criticisms. In addition. the book lacks continuity and flow, reading like a series of essays strung together under a theme of "myths." Tighter editing would have improved continuity, addressed inconsistencies in using birth and death dates, and corrected the unforgivable misspelling of the name Wedgwood. Not recommended.?Joyce L. Ogburn, Old Dominion Univ., Norfolk, Va. Copyright 1997 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Shattering the Myths of Darwinism
Author: Richard Milton
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781544643076
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 346
Book Description
Compelling evidence that the most important assumptions on which Darwinism rests are scientifically wrong. The controversial best-seller that sent Oxford University and Nature magazine into a frenzy. Shattering the Myths of Darwinism exposes the gaping holes in an ideology that has reigned unchallenged over the scientific world for a century. Darwinism is considered to be hard fact, the only acceptable explanation for the formation of life on Earth, but with keen insight and objectivity Richard Milton reveals that the theory totters atop a shambles of outdated and circumstantial evidence which in any less controversial field would have been questioned long ago. Sticking to the facts at hand and tackling a vast array of topics, Shattering the Myths of Darwinism offers compelling evidence that the theory of evolution has become an act of faith rather than a functioning science, and that not until the scientific method is applied to it and the right questions are asked will we ever get true answers to the mystery of life on Earth.

Evolution Myths
Author: Jeffrey K. Lyons
Publisher: Liberty Hill Publishing
ISBN: 9781545648186
Category : Evolution (Biology)
Languages : en
Pages : 240
Book Description
Today, evolutionary theory is ubiquitous in our secular education systems. This book is a critical view of neo-Darwinism, which is the dominant dogma throughout secular higher education and K-12 public education. The criticisms of neo-Darwinism cited in this book are from various overlapping groups of: scientists, atheists, philosophers and university professors. If you are looking for a resource that will give you sound arguments and facts, that will aid you in thinking critically about Darwinism; this is the resource for you. Evolution is no longer a biological theory. It permeates the natural sciences, social sciences and philosophy. It has become a meta-theory. Whenever scientific data are absent, both natural and social scientists resort to narrative as a super glue. Evolution is open to criticism! You will discover the following: Who popularized the term evolution and why Darwin opposed the term evolution How many times Darwin referred to the Creator in The Origin of Species What world famous scientist believed DNA was not naturally caused The Three Barriers to Life, that evolution cannot explain Proof that life cannot be the result of random forces How catastrophic events wiped out about 90% of life on Earth Who are some of the leading scientists and philosophers that dare to question evolution Chapter summaries will guide you through the topics Hundreds of scientific sources are cited for further research Jeffrey K. Lyons, Ph.D. is a graduate of University of Hawai'i at Manoa and Regent University, where he earned a Ph.D. in communication. He has taught at Hawai'i Pacific University, Argosy University, Honolulu and Honolulu Community College. He has published articles in the Global Media Journal, Journal of Radio & Audio Media and the Hawaiian Journal of History.

Newton’s Apple and Other Myths about Science
Author: Ronald L. Numbers
Publisher: Harvard University Press
ISBN: 0674967984
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 304
Book Description
A Guardian “Favourite Reads—as Chosen by Scientists” Selection “Tackles some of science’s most enduring misconceptions.” —Discover A falling apple inspired Isaac Newton’s insight into the law of gravity—or did it really? Among the many myths debunked in this refreshingly irreverent book are the idea that alchemy was a superstitious pursuit, that Darwin put off publishing his theory of evolution for fear of public reprisal, and that Gregor Mendel was ahead of his time as a pioneer of genetics. More recent myths about particle physics and Einstein’s theory of relativity are discredited too, and a number of dubious generalizations, like the notion that science and religion are antithetical, or that science can neatly be distinguished from pseudoscience, go under the microscope of history. Newton’s Apple and Other Myths about Science brushes away popular fictions and refutes the widespread belief that science advances when individual geniuses experience “Eureka!” moments and suddenly grasp what those around them could never imagine. “Delightful...thought-provoking...Every reader should find something to surprise them.” —Jim Endersby, Science “Better than just countering the myths, the book explains when they arose and why they stuck.” —The Guardian
