Dad, How Do I?
Author: Rob Kenney
Publisher: HarperCollins
ISBN: 0063075032
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 230
Book Description
From the host of the YouTube channel that went viral—Dad, How Do I?—comes a book that’s part memoir/part inspiration/part DIY. Rob Kenney’s father left him and his seven siblings when he was fourteen years old, and the youngest had to fend for themselves. He wished that he had someone who could teach him the basics—how to tie a tie, jump-start a car, unclog a drain, use tools properly—as well as succeed in life. But he and his siblings had to figure these things out on their own. Now a father himself, Rob decided that he would help people out by providing how-to tips as well as advice—and even throw in some bad dad jokes. He started a YouTube channel for anyone looking for fatherly advice, and in the course of three months, gained a following of nearly 2.5 million subscribers, with millions of views for his how-to and inspirational videos. In this book, Rob shares his story of overcoming a difficult childhood with the strength of faith and family, and offers inspiration and hope. In addition, he provides 50 practical DYI instructions (30 of which will be unique to the book), illustrated with helpful line drawings.

Daddy's Book
Author: Joseph Coppini
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1483656586
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 105
Book Description
This is how the story begins, it was a Wednesday night and I went to a dance every Wednesday night at the P.S. Pavilion; a nice big dance hall like the big ones we had in Chicago, with the big bands. I felt like I was about 18 years old and I danced every dance. I had a few drinks and I left the dance about 11 :00 P.M. I got to bed about 11:45 p.m. I woke up about 5 a.m the next morning. I couldn't breathe, I was having a tough time breathing; so I called 911. I knew I was in some kind of trouble so I took my pajamas off, put on shorts and with that I put my medicare card and blue cross/blue shield card, and my driver's license in my pocket I waited out side. It seemed like an hour but it was probably only a few minutes, before the fire dept arrived with their wagon. I was standing in the driveway, waiting for them to arrive. I said, "I'm having a hard time breathing would you please give me some oxygen." They kept asking, what's your name, . . .where do you live? I kept asking them to please give me some oxygen. I was having a tough time breathing.

The Bootlegger's Other Daughter
Author: Mary Cimarolli
Publisher: Texas A&M University Press
ISBN: 9781585444472
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 188
Book Description
The generation that toiled through the Great Depression and won the Second World War has become known as “the greatest generation.” But not all of them qualified for that exaggerated epithet in the eyes of their own children. In this tender but unsparing memoir, Mary Cimarolli remembers a world in which the family home was lost to foreclosure, her father made his way by bootlegging, and school was a haven to hide from her brother’s teasing. Her stories are about struggle and survival, making do and overcoming, and, ultimately, reconciliation. From her perspective as a child, she describes the cotton stamps and other programs of the New Deal, the yellow-dog Democrat politics and racism of East Texas, and the religious revivals and Old Settlers reunions that gave a break from working in the cotton patch. The colorful colloquialisms of rural East Texas that dot the manuscript help express both the traditionalism of the region and its changes under the impact of modernization, electrification, and the coming of war. Along with these regional and national trends, Cimarolli skillfully interweaves the personal: conflict between her parents, the death of her brother a few days before his sixteenth birthday, and her own inner tensions.

Asymmetry in Grammar
Author: Anna Maria Di Sciullo
Publisher: John Benjamins Publishing
ISBN: 9027296790
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 315
Book Description
Asymmetry in Grammar: Morphology, Phonology and Acquisition presents evidence that asymmetry, as a property of linguistic relations, is salient in grammar. The papers in morphology bring further evidence for the centrality of asymmetry in word-structure. It is shown that asymmetry is part of the internal structure of functional constructs such as determiners and complementizers, as it is the case for lexical constructs. Further evidence is presented for the asymmetry of prefixes in verb structure. A typology of formal objects based on the distinction between maximal and minimal categories is formulated. It is proposed that Formal Complexity drives the change from synthetic to analytic expressions. The papers in phonology point to the fact that asymmetry is part of that linguistic dimension in terms of processes that eliminates symmetric relations, in terms of head-dependency relations, in terms of relative scope of the distinctive features in any inventory, in terms of universal principles in combination with certain language specific choices. Moreover, the papers on acquisition bring to fore experimental data that point to the same direction. The asymmetry of grammatical relations provides the form of the initial state of language that enables the child to cope with the poverty of the stimulus. The collection includes papers in morphology by Anna Maria Di Sciullo, Angela Ralli, Réjean Canac-Marquis, Abdelkader Fassi Fehri, papers in phonology by Eric Raimy, Harry van der Hulst and Nancy Ritter, Glyne Piggott, Charles Reiss, Elan Dresher, and papers in acquisition from Maria Louisa Rivero and Magdalena Goledzinowska, and David Lebeaux.
