Book Description
We report the measurement of differential diphoton direct production cross sections and a study of photon + 3-jet events with double parton (DP) interactions, based on data taken with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider. We measure single differential cross sections as a function of the diphoton mass, the transverse momentum of the diphoton system, the azimuthal angle between the photons, and the polar scattering angle of the photons. In addition, we measure double differential cross sections considering the last three kinematic variables in three diphoton mass bins. The results are compared with different perturbative QCD predictions and event generators. We have used a sample of photon + 3-jet events collected by the D0 experiment with an integrated luminosity of about 1 fb−1 to determine the fraction of events with double parton scattering (f{sub DP}) in a single p{bar p} collision at √s = 1.96 TeV. The DP fraction and effective cross section ([sigma]{sub eff}), a process-independent scale parameter related to the parton density inside the nucleon, are measured in three intervals of the second (ordered in p{sub T}) jet transverse momentum p{sub T}{sup jet2} within the range 15

Book Description
We consider sample of inclusive [gamma] + 3 jet events collected by the D0 experiment. The double parton fraction (f{sub DP}) and effective cross section [sigma]{sub eff}, a process-independent scale parameter related to the parton density inside the nucleon, are measured in three intervals of the second (ordered in p{sub T}) jet transverse momentum p{sub T}{sup jet2} within the 15 ≤ p{sub T}{sup jet2} ≤ 30 GeV range. Also we measured cross sections as a function of the angle in the plane transverse to the beam direction between the transverse momentum (p{sub T}) of the [gamma] + leading jet system and p{sub T} of the other jet for [gamma] + 2 jet, or p{sub T} sum of the two other jets for [gamma] + 3 jet events. The results are compared to different models of multiple parton interactions (MPI) in the PYTHIA and SHERPA Monte Carlo (MC) generators.

Multiple Parton Interaction Studies at DØ

Book Description
Here, we present the results of studies of multiparton interactions done by the DØ collaboration using the Fermilab Tevatron at a center of mass energy of 1.96 TeV. We also present three analyses, involving three distinct final signatures: (a) a photon with at least 3 jets ([gamma] + 3jets), (b) a photon with a bottom or charm quark tagged jet and at least 2 other jets ([gamma] + b/c + 2jets), and (c) two J/ [psi] mesons. The fraction of photon + jet events initiated by double parton scattering is about 20%, while the fraction for events in which two J/ [psi] mesons were produced is 30 ± 10. While the two measurements are statistically compatible, the difference might indicate differences in the quark and gluon distribution within a nucleon. Finally, this speculation originates from the fact that photon + jet events are created by collisions with quarks in the initial states, while J/ [psi] events are produced preferentially by a gluonic initial state.

Study of Double Parton Scattering in Photon + 3 Jets Final State

Study of Double Parton Scattering in Photon + 3 Jets Final State PDF Author: You-Hao Chang

Book Description
This book mainly focuses on the study of photon + 3 jets final state in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s = 7TeV, searching for patterns of two (or more) distinct hard scatterings in the same collision, i.e the so-called Double Parton Scattering (DPS). A new method by using Monte Carlo generators was performed and provides higher order corrections to the description of the Single Parton Scattering (SPS) background. Further it is investigated whether additional contributions from DPS can improve the agreement between the measured data and the Monte Carlo predictions. The current theoretical uncertainties related to the SPS background are found to be larger than expectation. At the same time a rich set of DPS-sensitive measurements is reported for possible further interpretation.

Book Description
Photon plus jet production has been studied by the D0 experiment in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at a centre of mass energy of (square root)s = 1.96 TeV. Measurements of the inclusive photon, inclusive photon plus jet, photon plus heavy flavour jet cross sections and double parton interactions in photon plus three jet events are presented. They are based on integrated luminosities between 0.4 fb−1 and 1.0 fb−1. The results are compared to perturbative QCD calculations in various approximations.

Book Description
Measurements of prompt photon production in {anti p}p collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV from the CDF and D0 experiments at Fermilab are presented. The measured inclusive isolated photon spectrum at CDF and D0 are used to test current parton distribution functions and NLO QCD predictions. No new resonance is found in the photon + jet mass spectrum from D0 which is consistent with NLO QCD predictions. The pseudorapidity distribution of the leading jet in photon events at CDF is used to constrain the parton distribution sets while the angular distribution is found to be better explained by a larger Bremsstrahlung contribution. The soft diphoton spectrum is compared to NLO QCD predictions. The diphoton system P{sub T} is found to agree better with the LO shower monte-carlo prediction of Pythia than NLO QCD. Finally, the [gamma] + charm cross section is measured and compared to the LO Pythia prediction.

A Study of Four-jet Events and Search for Double Parton Interactions at [radical] PDF Author:

Book Description
Kinematic properties of four-jet events in p[bar p] collisions at [radical]s = 1.8 TeV are compared with the predictions of leading order quantum chromodynamics. We place an upper limit on the double parton scattering cross of [sigma][sub DP] 120 nb (95% C.L.) for partons with transverse momenta greater than 18 GeV/c. Defining the effective cross section [sigma][sub eff] through the equation of [sigma][sub eff] = [sigma][sub DP] = [sigma][sub dijet]/([sup 2]/[sigma][sub eff]), where [sigma][sub dijet] is the cross section for two-jets events, the limit [sigma][sub eff] 3.9 mb (95% C.L.) is also placed. Implications for physics at the SSC ([radical]s = 40 TeV) are discussed.
