Perdue's 42nd Annual Catalog, 1942: Millions of "Best Quality" Strawberry Plants Soil is fertile, also high, well drained land especially adapted to successful growing of best quality straw berry plants that will produce large crops of fine strawberries. Quality OF plants is the very best, being large in size with long fibrous roots and healthy foliage, and are State certified; disease free, true to name plants. You cannot get better stock no matter where you get them. Methods OF cultivation: Previous to setting out the plants I grow a crop of cow peas on the land and plow them in during - the month of October, then set the plants about November lst and culti vate them at once. I do not cultivate again at any time until the following March, when they are side dressed with a commercial fertilizer, with fertilizer attachments attached to the cultivator used for this purpose; after which they are cultivated and hoed at intervals until about the middle of September.
