Book Description
Fatigue crack-growth rate tests of cast NAB and NAB weld metal specimens were conducted to determine the threshold for fatigue crack growth (?Kth). The tests were conducted in accordance with ASTM E 647, Standard Test Method for Measurement of Fatigue Crack Growth Rates, in artificial seawater at a cyclic frequency of 2 Hz at R-ratios of +0.05, +0.40, and +0.60. The specimens were machined from both poor and good quality, as-cast NAB. Production NAB weldments were used for NAB weld metal specimens.

Book Description
Annotation Contains 24 papers from the November, 1998 symposium of the same name, sponsored by the ASTM Committee E8 on Fatigue and Fracture, and presented by Newman and Piascik (both of the NASA Langley Research Center). The papers focus on such areas as fatigue-crack growth threshold mechanisms, loading and specimen-type effects, analyses of fatigue-crack-growth-threshold behavior, and applications of threshold concepts and endurance limits to aerospace and structural materials. Cast and Wrought Aluminium Bronzes

Cast and Wrought Aluminium Bronzes PDF Author: Harry Meigh

Book Description
Continuous casting of non-ferrous metals has been practised for well over 100 years. It has many advantages over static ingot and book mould casting, the most important being improved yield, reduced energy consumption and reduction of manpower, with a consequent reduction in cost. This book shows how the prrocess can be used in an engineering environment for casting a wide range of copper based alloys and precious metals, including gold and silver, and selected nickel alloys.

Near-Threshold Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior of Fine-Grain Nickel-Based Alloys

Book Description
Constant-Kmax fatigue crack growth tests were performed on two finegrain nickel-base alloys Inconel 718 (DA) and Ren 95 to determine if these alloys exhibit near-threshold time-dependent crack growth behavior observed for fine-grain aluminum alloys in room-temperature laboratory air. Test results showed that increases in K(sub max) values resulted in increased crack growth rates, but no evidence of time-dependent crack growth was observed for either nickel-base alloy at room temperature. Threshold Corrosion Fatigue Crack Growth in Steels

Threshold Corrosion Fatigue Crack Growth in Steels PDF Author: LKL Tu

Book Description
The threshold stress intensity factor range ?Kth of three steels was studied in air and steam. Constant load and constant crack opening displacement (COD) tests were conducted by using tension-tension sinusoidal wave function loading. The COD tests were controlled by a high frequency clip-on strain gage. Crack growth rate was measured by both optical and COD compliance techniques and verified by metallographic examination of the broken specimens. The ?Kth value was determined as the asymptote to the best-fit data below a crack growth rate of 2.5 x 10-8 cm/cycle. The ?Kth values were higher in steam than in air. Crack growth rates in air and steam generally crossover or merge in the range of 2.5 x 10-6 to 2.5 x 10-7 cm/cycle; below this range the growth rate is lower in steam than in air. The higher values in steam tests were explained by environmentally assisted crack branching and corrosion products formed at the crack tip after long-time testing at growth rates of less than one lattice spacing per cycle of loading.
