Cornish Delight and Other Stories

Cornish Delight and Other Stories PDF Author: Lee Daniels
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1669814823
Category : Travel
Languages : en
Pages : 85

Book Description
This book is the fourth in a collection of travel essays that the author has published over the course of a ten-year period. Its stories are about the author’s travel experiences in places across the U.S., Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia. Some of the stories evolved from sections of old travel journals he wrote while in his twenties, while some date back a decade, and others more recent than that. He feels extremely fortunate to have had the ability to live in different places abroad as an exchange student, relief worker, and backpacker in an age when travel was relatively cheap and the world a safer place, with health hazards amounting to nothing more serious than malaria and the occasional bout of dysentery. His wish is that in describing these experiences, readers will regain confidence in the kindness of the human spirit?for without the kindness of strangers he met on my journeys, the author may never have successfully completed them?and become inspired to venture outre-mer, as did Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, one of our first great travel writers, did in his book by the same name about his travels in Europe in the 19th century.

Book Description
A beautiful village. An artist who’s lost her spark. And a community who help her find it again. ‘Charming and romantic, sweet and sunny. I loved it’ MILLY JOHNSON 'A warm and charm-filled story about community, passion and following your heart, The Cornish Hideaway is a feel-good delight. Its dreamy seaside setting and cast of loveable characters quickly became a world I didn't want to leave. A holiday romance in book form - I adored it!' HOLLY MILLER ‘A sun-drenched summer in picture-perfect Polcarrow - I didn't want it to end’ HOLLY HEPBURN All Freya has ever wanted to do is paint. So when she fails her Master’s Degree in Art, on the same day that her boyfriend decides he needs a ‘more serious’ partner, to Freya it feels like the end of the world. Luckily, she has a saviour in the shape of best friend Lola, who invites her to the sleepy Cornish village of Polcarrow, to work in her café. With nothing keeping her in London, Freya jumps at the chance of a summer by the sea. Freya needs time to focus on herself. But then dark and mysterious biker Angelo blows into town on a stormy afternoon, with his own artistic dreams and a secretive past, and Freya’s plans of a romance-free summer fly straight out of the window… Heart-warming, heartfelt and romantic, The Cornish Hideaway is a novel of community, friendship and learning to love again, for fans of Jenny Colgan, Cathy Bramley and Heidi Swain. ‘I absolutely loved the gorgeous seaside setting and the wonderful sense of community!’ HOLLY MARTIN 'A wonderfully charming debut’ JACKIE FRASER

The Cornish Fishermen's Watch-Night, and Other Stories

The Cornish Fishermen's Watch-Night, and Other Stories PDF Author: Anonymous
Publisher: DigiCat
ISBN:
Category : Fiction

Pages : 74

Book Description
The Cornish Fishermen's Watch-Night, and Other Stories is a collection of short stories by unknown authors. Excerpt: "This was what the Penwhinnock men were discussing as they stood around some of the largest fishing-boats, dragged up on the beach for safety, and watched the gathering storm. The wind was blowing "big guns" then, and the rain was pelting fiercely down upon the bare, rugged rocks, and the mean, small cottages which formed the dwellings of the fishermen, and lined each side of the long straggling village street. It would have appeared to most landsmen as if the weather could not be much worse; but to the experienced eyes of the fishermen the night promised worse things——worse things to many an ill-fated mariner——but in the judgment of those hardy, cruel men it might bring to them "a good catch."
