Book Description
The demand pressure and the plethora of evidences observed in the form of increasing infrastructure financing gap, ageing infrastructure, environmental factors, such as climate change and rising quality standards are factors attracting institutional and private sector participation in infrastructure investment. Therefore, the search for innovative means of financing infrastructure has become incessant. Also, the features of the financial landscape, especially in a financial crisis has further underpinned the significance of looking beyond the present infrastructure need, to a more sustained infrastructure financing scheme anticipated from institutional investors. A well established capital market has therefore been identified as a viable option for long term and steady global capital flows to financing infrastructure projects; else, the burden will remain on governments to offer direct or indirect support to private investors in attracting financing for infrastructure development. This book therefore conceptually investigates the potentials of the capital market and institutional investors’ capital flows in bridging the global infrastructure funding gap. A fundamental conclusion from the book revealed that institutional investors particularly pension funds have the capacity to pool enormous resources into the infrastructure market, thus emphatically projecting them as a force to be reckoned with in the global infrastructure investments.

Sweden-Norway at the Berlin Conference 1884-85. History, National Identity-Making and Sweden's Relations with Africa
Author: David Nilsson
Publisher: Nordic Africa Institute
ISBN: 9789171067388
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 56
Book Description
"The image of Sweden is one of a small, democratic and peace-loving country without the moral burden of a colonial past. However, in this Current African Issues publication, the notion that Sweden lacks a colonial past in Africa is brought into question. At the Berlin Conference 1884-85, the rules for colonisation of Africa were agreed upon among a handful of white men. With the blessing of King Oscar II, the united kingdoms of Sweden-Norway participated in the Berlin conference, ratified the resulting convention and signed a trade agreement with King Leopold's International Congo Association. Thereafter, hundreds of Swedish militaries, seamen and missionaries took an active part in the brutal colonial project in the Congo. What was Sweden-Norway really doing at the Berlin Conference and in the ensuing Scramble for Africa ? Is it now time to re-assess Swedish identity in relation to Africa, an identity so far centered on colonial innocence ? Dr DAVID NILSSON is a researcher at the Division of History of Science, Technology and Environment, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. His research focuses on global long term perspectives on sustainable development in Africa." -- Abstract.

Changing Cultures in Higher Education
Author: Ulf-Daniel Ehlers
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642035825
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 544
Book Description
More and more educational scenarios and learning landscapes are developed using blogs, wikis, podcasts and e-portfolios. Web 2.0 tools give learners more control, by allowing them to easily create, share or reuse their own learning materials, and these tools also enable social learning networks that bridge the border between formal and informal learning. However, practices of strategic innovation of universities, faculty development, assessment, evaluation and quality assurance have not fully accommodated these changes in technology and teaching. Ehlers and Schneckenberg present strategic approaches for innovation in universities. The contributions explore new models for developing and engaging faculty in technology-enhanced education, and they detail underlying reasons for why quality assessment and evaluation in new – and often informal – learning scenarios have to change. Their book is a practical guide for educators, aimed at answering these questions. It describes what E-learning 2.0 is, which basic elements of Web 2.0 it builds on, and how E-learning 2.0 differs from Learning 1.0. The book also details a number of quality methods and examples, such as self-assessment, peer-review, social recommendation, and peer-learning, using illustrative cases and giving practical recommendations. Overall, it offers a step-by-step guide for educators so that they can choose their own quality assurance or assessment methods, or develop their own evaluation methodology for specific learning scenarios. The book addresses everyone involved in higher education – university leaders, chief information officers, change and quality assurance managers, and faculty developers. Pedagogical advisers and consultants will find new insights and practices for the integration and management of novel learning technologies in higher education. The volume fosters in lecturers and teachers a sound understanding of the need and strategy for change, and it provides them with practical recommendations on competence and quality methodologies.

Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1443847070
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 290
Book Description
Tourism Marketing: On Both Sides of the Counter is the fourth successful publication by the team that runs the bi-annual Advances in Tourism Marketing Conference, following its foundation by Prof. Metin Kozak. The current volume contains a selection of the best papers presented at the conference in Maribor, Slovenia, in September 2011. As that year’s conference title indicates, it comprises research important for tourism management, by focusing on tourist behaviour with relevance to managerial strategies and operational practices, as well as on business operations, vision and goals, and their impact on tourist experiences. Contributions are clearly arranged into five parts covering topical consumption issues: image, satisfaction, and social and environmental research results. The last two sections cover timely and managerially relevant contributions on tourism ITC, innovation and competitiveness research. The contributions reflect the vibrancy of ATMC and the high calibre of researchers the conference attracts.
