Design Computing and Cognition ’04 PDF Author: John S. Gero
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9781402023927
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 652

Book Description
Artificial intelligence provides an environmentally rich paradigm within which design research based on computational constructions can be carried out. This has been one of the foundations for the developing field called "design computing". Recently, there has been a growing interest in what designers do when they design and how they use computational tools. This forms the basis of a newly emergent field called "design cognition" that draws partly on cognitive science. This new conference series aims to provide a bridge between the two fields of "design computing" and "design cognition". The papers in this volume are from the "First International Conference on Design Computing and Cognition" (DCC'04) held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. They represent state-of-the art research and development in design computing and cognition. They are of particular interest to researchers, developers and users of advanced computation in design and those who need to gain a better understanding of designing.

Artificial Animals for Computer Animation

Artificial Animals for Computer Animation PDF Author: Xiaoyuan Tu
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3540669396
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 176

Book Description
This book is based on the author's phD thesis, which won the 1996 ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award. The author proposes and develops an artificial life paradigm for computer graphics animation by systematically constructing artificial animals controlled by self-animating autonomous agents. The animation agents emulate the realistic appearance, movement, and behavior of individual animals, as well as the patterns of social behavior evident in groups of animals. The paradigm is based on a computational model capturing the essential characteristics common to all biological creatures: biomechanics, locomotion, perception, and behavior. The approach is validated through the implementation of a virtual marine world inhabited by a variety of lifelike artificial fish, where each fish is a functional autonomous agent.
