Category : Business enterprises

Pages : 350
Book Description
From its birth in a hostile setting, through the struggles that have defined its existence to the success it has secured in the face of formidable odds, the history of Tata Chemicals is rich in incident and endeavour, sacrifice and fortitude. This intimate and illuminating chronicle of a singularly resilient enterprise narrates that history and the gallant efforts of the people who shaped it. Salt of the Earth tells the story of how Tata Chemicals emerged from the toil and despair of its early years to reach and breach new frontiers in its chosen industry and then beyond in the manufacturing of soda ash and other alkalis, in the production of fertilisers and by creating a trusted food brand. This is also the story of a company that has progressed and prospered by staying true to the legacy of its founders and the traditions and tenets of the Tata group, and by committing itself to the cause of the communities in which it operates. With a substantial presence in four continents, leadership positions in different business segments, and the character and potential to touch yet greater heights, Tata Chemicals is poised to add new chapters to a saga 75 years in the making. The past will inform and influence that future.

Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031275128
Category : Social responsibility of business
Languages : en
Pages : 296
Book Description
This book examines corporate social responsibility theories and models in the context of developing countries. The developing countries are amongst the poorest countries of the world despite vast natural resources. The natural resources are mismanaged, proceeds are misappropriated, corruption and conflict are centered on resource control. Governments and Multinational Corporations (MNCs) are at the centre of the controversy of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the affected countries. Moreover, the lack of systems, procedures and legislation to enforce CSR has led to environmental degradation and a decline in business ethics and morality. This book analyses Corporate Social Responsibility in developing countries with specific reference to the extractive industry by integrating academic and industrial perspectives. Tata Chemicals Ltd
Author: Vasant Sivaraman
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
This case deals with the revitalization of Tata Chemicals Ltd. (TCL) by way of significant international acquisitions in the first decade of the new millennium. Set in 2011, TCL has a decision to make on the potential acquisition of a stake in a North American early stage potash development company. This acquisition could allow TCL to set up a fertilizer plant, which might give the company a jump start just as earlier acquisitions had helped the company to be ranked number two in the world in soda ash production. As backward integration can be a risky strategy, the acquisition needs to be carefully considered in terms of when to integrate and when to rely on market-driven contractual arrangements. Learning Objective: This case is designed for MBA students for a module on scope expansion as part of corporate strategy. The conceptual framework on integration can be introduced with this case in a 70-minute session. The objective of this case is to illustrate three key points: A pattern in decisions over time reveals strategy. The consistency of contextual logic in the approach to major decisions like acquisitions over time explains successful performance. A focused expansion is more likely to deliver value since growth can also deliver operational enhancement. Integration pays off in certain circumstances such as situations where contracts may risk vertical market failure.
