Las habilidades y destrezas básicas son aquellos movimientos que se llevan a cabo de forma natural y que suponen la estructura cinética primaria que todo ser humano requiere como soporte de su vida, al margen de que siga o no realizando actividades físicas de forma metódica. No olvidemos que la iniciación deportiva supone el comienzo del trabajo con las habilidades específicas, pero para ello debemos basarnos en un trabajo previo de las genéricas, básicas y perceptivo-motrices (Giménez, 2003). Precisamente, las edades propias de la etapa Primaria resultan concluyentes para el desarrollo equitativo y óptimo de las áreas cognoscitiva, afectiva y motriz de la conducta humana, aunque también influyen las oportunidades que les demos para la práctica motriz en los tres tiempos peagógicos.
