"Rationing can be defined as a way of limiting products in short supply in order to assure equal distribution." World History has examples of rationing. Excerpt from Reports of the Trustees and Resident Officers and Visiting Committee of the Maine State Hospitals: For the Year Ending November 30, 1913 A glance at table number five shows that of the men committed were single and 25% of the women and 35% of the men were married and 4870 of the women. It is shown by our nativity table that 74. 5% of the committed patients were born in the State of Maine and were born in this country; 6970 of the fathers and 67% of the mothers were born in the United States. The most prominent predisposing cause of the mental break down was as usual an hereditary tendency which was present in 5270 of the committed cases. Alcoholic intemperance was an active or a predisposing factor in The table of causes which has been prepared with unusual care is worthy of special study. Therein is shown the great variety of causes which come to light as a result of our investigations and the frequent com bination of causes which seems to show that a mental disease is not usually the result of one definite causative factor but is due to the cumulative influence of several causative agents. In 48 cases we were unable to ascertain the cause with any degree of exactness. Pellagra, to which I called particular attention in my last report was found in. Three women who were admitted during the year. We have had six cases of this disease in this hospital within the past two years and we hope soon to present a resume of our clinical and anatomical findings which should prove of scientific interest.
