Excerpt from Collections of the Georgia Historical Society, Vol. 3 Through the researches of Mr. G. W. J. DeRenne, of this city, a gentleman who has devoted much time to historical inquiry, the Georgia Historical Society became aware of the fact that copies could be obtained from the British Colonial Office, of valuable manuscripts connected with the early history of the Colony of Georgia. On a subsequent visit to England, Mr. DeRenne was empowered by the Society to procure copies of such valuable documents appertaining to the history of Georgia, not hitherto printed, as could be found in the Colonial Office. The Society thus obtained copies of 1st. The Letters of General Oglethorpe to the Trustees of the Colony, commencing October 29th, 1735, which was the period of his return from his first visit to England after the settlement of the Colony, and ending August 24th, 1744. 2d. Letters from Sir James Wright, Governor of the Province of Georgia, to the Earl of Dartmouth, and Lord George Germain, Secretaries of State, and others, in which he narrates the local events of the War of Rebellion by which the Thirteen Colonies became separated from the mother country.
